The strategy that Ricky used in the fight was the only strategy that could have showed him any success. It was a risky venture though and the risk is what bit him in the end. His only route to winning that fight was to try to bully Manny.

If Ricky would have tried to "box", Manny would have teed off on him even worse. Ricky may have lasted a bit longer, but would have been picked apart and brutalized.

Yep, then get in close and try to land some of his own. Have you ever watched him fight before? That was the game Ricky always had. It served him well over the course of his career. You cannot teach an old dog new tricks.
