Barrera was past his best at that stage but was still a good fighter who put up a good performance.
Was Barrera out of his prime when he fought Marquez?

As to who would win in a prime-for-prime match up there's no way to say for sure. But I do use that fight as a measuring stick for it. And the conclusion I come to is that they may not fight just one fight. It may be similar to the Barrera-Morales rivalry of where they would have to fight 3 fights in order to see who the superior man was. Marquez came awful close to knocking Barrera out in that 7th round, and then Barrera came up with that nice right that dropped JMM on his paws. And JMM was able to get up after being rabbit punched in the back of the head. All that tells me that they were both evenly matched fighters with a competitive spirit.Comment

I ordered that fight on PPV too, and I felt like I got my money's worth. That was an action fight with beautiful boxing in it. The only thing that tainted it was the ridiculous scorecards in JMM's favor. That fight was a lot closer than those idiotic judges had it, regardless of who won. I also remember this fight being on St Paddy's day. I got a late start on going out and celebrating. Ha ha ha.Comment

It very hard to say about prime Barrera.
When Barrera lost to close fight against Morles, He won Nassem Hamed, Johnny Tapia, Kevin Kelly anf got a gifted fight against Morles.
Then he lost to Pac people though he was through but he won Paulie Ayala ( was big that time), Morles again but this time it was clear win for Barrera, easy Fana win, Penden and Rocky Juarez twice the 2nd time was made look very very easy.
He lost in a very close fight against Marquez which some could say that he won by a point.
Pac 2nd fight people though he could get KOed very quick but he survived the fight.
so it very hard to say whats it prime BarreraComment

Barrera wasn't at his best but not shot. He's still not shot, just past his best and fighting at a weight class way to high for him. FFs he probably would have beat Khan had the fight went longer.
Marquez is improving though, I think at 122-126 Barrera might have taken him in a close bout.Comment

JMM couldn't even deal with a out of prime Barrera. Barrera was in a **** load more wars then JMM was and JMM still didn't look impressive against Barrera. He is going to get his ass kicked by floyd anyways.Comment
