When exactly did Calzaghe have any options to fight Hopkins or Jones before he did?
He offered Hopkins the fight back in 2002 (or 03) and Hopkins agreed before coming back the next day and doubling his money demands that he had agreed to a day earlier. There is evidence of this.
Jones also said back then that he wasn't interested in a fight with Calzaghe as he wasn't a big enough name at the time.
By the time Calzaghe was a big enough name Jones was at light heavyweight and Calzaghe has two contenders to his throne at 168 in Lacy and Kessler. He went onto destroy Lacy in one of the most one sided world title fights i have ever witnessed, and then went onto outclass Kessler before moving up as the undisputed #1 at 168.
