thats what tysons early opponents had.

And why were they scared of a 5'11, 215 pound fighter?

    • Because of his aura, the fact that he looked like an animal etc, why are people scared of horror movies? cos they arent real just like "prime Tyson" aint real.

      • Mike Tyson was the typical bully, he hit you with his best punch and if you did not go away you could beat him or give him a difficult fight.

Tyson's bully mentality meant he was never prepared for what happens, IF the guy takes his best shot, so when a guy did take his best shot and started asking questions of him, he was not mentally prepared to answer those question because his bully mentality did not prepare for his opponent to take his best shot and ask questions of HIM.

He came across a guy in Holyfield who is everything Tyson is NOT in terms of fabric of a true warrior a guy with a resilient never say die attitude with balls big enough to come in a dump truck. Holyfield also has great recovery powers to take those big shots.

That is the bottom line folks. Mike Tyson got bested because he was mentally unstable period. Not because he stopped moving his head, not because Cus D'amato died, not because of his ex wife. You guys need to get a grip.

Asking Mike Tyson not to lose his cool under pressure is like asking Golota not to low blow, NOT happening.

        • This is a great quote.

The only real fight the pre-prison Tyson ever had was against the only decent heavyweight fighter he fought, a determined, well-conditioned Buster Douglas -- and Tyson was roundly beaten, battered and knocked out! That was Tyson in his prime, against a fighter who went on to "extinguish" himself by being knocked out in three rounds by Evander Holyfield

Tyson fans think he could KO a great white shark and that he's one of the greates heavies of all time. lol his prime was 5 minutes, he got battered by the only good fighters he ever fought and he got kicked up the ass on the way out by an irish club fighter lmao.
Lewis didn't underachieve because it wasn't in his character to take high risks. Lewis played it smart first. We actually see this with Wlad right now. Wlad was more exciting before Emanuel got to him but he is a better fighter now because he plays it safe. The negative side to it is that he could score a quicker KO but he would also be taking more of a risk in a fight to lose.

For me, I appreciate Lewis overall because I understood what he was doing and that was to win first.

Ali lost to Leon Spinks and Berbick...toss his ass out of the HOF.
Lewis got KTFO by Tyson's sparring partner and a man that took up the sport in his 20's. Take his ass out of the HOF
We could go through a list of fighters that had bad ends to their careers or slipped up during their careers.

The guy took Mike's heart after he got up, thats my point you could break Tyson's spirit, IF you could take his shots. That is a prime Mike to.

That was a big IF though. Tyson was a great fighter but just not the complete package people like to pretend he was in his prime.

Most of the people who have posted in this thread (you being a very notable exception) are boxing fans rather than fans of any one particular boxer; and are far more objective than you are, about both fighters.

No one in this thread has made unrealistic claims about Tyson's KO power - and they have all made the point that it's not so much his power as his boxing skills when he was with Rooney that would make him a very tough nut for Lewis to crack - so you're using idiotic straw man arguments instead of engaging in a discussion with anyone. If you don't want to engage in a discussion, why do you bother to post?

There is not a single credible boxing expert who does not rate Tyson as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, most have him around #10. Your dismissiveness of all of the worlds boxing experts just makes you look ridiculous.

                  So a 5'11, 215 pound fighter is a bully and not a 6'5, 245 pounder?

And fighters did throw back at him and he still won. You need to stop being a Parrot of other's thoughts. People forget this is boxing and it isn't likely to score a KO in every match. When Tyson didn't score a KO, it was like he ****** and loss even though he won a UD.

Tyson had problems and would have trouble with certain fighters...Lewis was one of the guys I mentioned...but you underrate what Rooney did for him and you must have not watched any fight of Tyson with Rooney instructed Tyson what to do and how he worked with Tyson to keep his focus and how Tyson responded. Without Rooney, he was by himself.
Now, that is on Tyson...I never denied that...and, I've always said that was the difference between someone like Tyson and someone like Ali: Ali was a General and Tyson was a Soldier.

In addition: I have argued on the question of how good was Tyson really?
                  And, we just don't know.
We know he was better with Rooney and he was still quite young. And when he left Rooney he declined.

He never stayed the course and moved into the 90's not at his best which is why we have questions. Had he, we would have a better understanding of his talents with his Positives and Negatives.

                    • You clowns answer me this!

If Tyson was THAT good, one of the greats then why did he turn into tripe when he switched trainers. It's been pointed out that many old, washed up fighters still go on to put on commendable performances, but not tyson, oh no he got battered by everyone, and resorted to cowardly cheating and quitting to avoid taking anymore punishment.
