But that wasn't the reason why Floyd didn't fight him at 140.
Cotto was at the Gatti fight with Hatton because they were
in line to fight him and neither fight happened. Bob Arum
said Cotto wasn't ready and Hatton said the same so Floyd
vacated his 140 title and went for Zab instead because Floyd
wanted a unification bout with Hatton.

So your saying that since Gatti lost and the fight never happened
then it excuses Cotto from getting ridiculed for wanting to fight
an even more shot Gatti than the one Floyd fought? Floyd dismantled
Arturo Gatti at 140 & Cotto wanted him at 147 and that fight was
about to happen. Getting and defending belts against bums doesn't
deserve any credit?.........Okay, so what did Miguel Cotto do with
Alfonso Gomez and Michael Jennings? Actually Cotto fought a bum
Michael Jennings for a vacant belt that an elite fighter left "Paul
Williams" Stop trying to sell me Magic Beans because Arturo Gatti
has more of a legacy than those two tomato cans Miguel Cotto

I actually don't dislike Cotto. A lot of posters get that impression likely. I just sometimes get a kick out of messing with his fanatical nuthuggers.
