    I agree.

Thompson wasn't coming back with anything.

I think the ref gave Thompson the benefit of the doubt regarding his experience, he was known for getting smashed up and coming back.

Haye was also stopped by Odlanier Solis in the world heavyweight finals in Belfast.

        Thompson was age 41.

He was stopped due to a large point desparity, not a lack of chin. He wasn't T/KO'd.

No, it was stopped because Haye was out on his feet.

Way too much stock is put into age, especially when a fighter's credentials are known to overcome that barrier (i.e. Hopkins).

Not that I'm comparing Thompson to Hopkins in terms of career achievement or skill, but there is nothing shameful about losing to an infamously battled-toughened 41 year-old who was a multiple time CW champ.

Puritty and Brewster, despite not being as old as Thompson, were by far lesser accomplished fighters when they beat Wlad. And Haye at least went out fighting, instead of flopping about like a fish on land.

Ross Purrity was age 30 when he fought Wlad.

The durable Purrity was a big, strong, sturdy fighter who outweighed Wlad by 25 pounds.

Yet Joe Calzaghe, despite being age 37 himself, has received a lot of abuse in this forum for defeating, not losing to, Hopkins and Jones.

                      Double standards.
