Even if thats what he meant, both JMM and Floyd have knockouts in the exact same manner, to say one does it better than the other doesnt make any sense unless this is another "how can we indirectly praise my fav fighter by way of common opponents" thread, which you know it is.Its difficult to explain, how about this?
You dont have to slip a punch whilst countering for it to be a counterpunch
A few weeks ago Nonito Doniare knocked down Raul Martinez with a counter left milliseconds after being hit with a right.
This is what he's on about.
especially with NO specific examples to back it up.Comment

If the punch wasn't countered, then it's not a counterpunch.
If two guys knockout eachother at the same time, under that flawed logic, both would have countered eachother. No! A counterpunch is countering, not getting hit either by a slip or block, and then returning a punch that lands.Comment

Exactly, well said man.

Okay, I actually get what pacman7777 means, he's just worded it wrongly.
I think he's talking exclusively about the timing of a counterpunch, rather than wether a guy throwing it slips it or not.
Difficult to explain, but those are the kind of lines he is going along.
But he needs to call it day with the bickering.

Look at the earlier definition of a counterpunch
If the punch wasn't countered, then it's not a counterpunch.
If two guys knockout eachother at the same time, under that flawed logic, both would have countered eachother. No! A counterpunch is countering, not getting hit either by a slip or block, and then returning a punch that lands.
"A counterattack, begun immediately after an opponent throws a punch"
It does not say a counter punch is dependant on slipping
It says....
A "counter-puncher" typically waits for his opponent to throw punches, then blocks or slips past them and exploits the opening in his opponent's position.
Its simply giving an example of what a "typical" counterpuncher does.
I dont believe this definition says
"Unless you slip or block the punch its not a counterpunch"
Thats why I can kind of see what he's getting at.Comment
