650k @ $50 a pop ain't bad at all considering people are less reluctant to spend that type of money for a PPV these days.

Do the math, GBP and TR made money, and that's just the PPV buys. Some of you forget that doesn't constitute for the entire profit the fight makes or how many people witnessed it (i.e. I didn't pay to watch it, but I witnessed it live).

          Pacman-Hatton monster pay-per-view hit
          By Roy Luarca

THE MANNY Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton showdown is now a certified pay-per-view monster hit.

Exceeding everyone’s expectations, the fight—which Pacquiao won by knockout late in the second round to wrest Hatton’s International Boxing Organization light welterweight crown—drew anywhere from 1.6 million to 2 million PPV buys, according to the USA Today newspaper.

The fight’s co-promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, had earlier projected sales of about 800,000 due to the world financial crisis.

Initial sales reports from cable firms, however, indicated that PPV buys was already over the 1.6 million mark, which would make the Pacquiao-Hatton duel the fourth biggest ever in boxing annals.

The Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather Jr. battle in 2007 remains the all-time PPV top draw with 2.4 million buys.

It was followed by the Holyfield-Tyson II with 1.99 million buys and the Lennox Lewis-Tyson in 2002 with 1.95 million.

If the Pacquiao-Hatton bout indeed breached 1.6 million buys, it would break the PPV records of both fighters.

The Pacquiao-De La Hoya tussle netted 1.25 million buys while the Hatton-Mayweather battle drew 915,000.

While the Pacquiao-De La Hoya clash attracted a live gate of just 15,000, the Pacquiao-Hatton tiff drew 16,262 fans to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, unbeaten Venezuelan knockout artist Edwin Valero has urged Arum to include him on the list of Pacquiao’s probable next opponents.

Valero, the WBC lightweight champ with a 25-0 card, all by knockout, said he’s willing to move up in weight to fight Pacquiao.

Junior middleweight prospect Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. also wants his name on the roster that already includes Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and the winner of the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Juan Manuel Marquez fight in July.

Arum said he will consult Pacquiao and chief trainer Freddie Roach as to who will be the next opponent of the reigning pound-for-pound king.

In a related development, Hatton told The Sun newspaper that he was absolutely devastated by the one-sided beating he absorbed from Pacquiao.

“My head is in bits,” Hatton said. “I don’t think I could cry anymore after the Floyd Mayweather Jr. loss, but I certainly have.”

            Dios,

I actually disagree about the Floyd vs Marquez projected numbers. I think these guys can get easily 600k and I'll tell you why, in his fist pay per view Floyd did 350k with Gatti and that was in the summer too, and afterwards he did better numbers with Zab who's never drawn **** and yet again similar numbers with TATA who is neither exciting nor can her generate a pre-fight buzz like Zab can. You gotta also take in consideration that Gatti was MIA for all the press conferences prior to the fight. Floyd set the record with DLH and then followed it up with some great numbers against Hatton. Floyd's become quite the marketer, showing up on BET's reality show, dancing with the stars, that commercial was completely hillarious, WWE. People know him much better now than before and he keeps in the public eye unlike in his younger days.

Marquez is the last Mexican standing and while Floyd can get the numbers, Marquez can get the crowds. Ricky got the crowds but Pacman couldn't get the numbers.

Also, in the 24/7 marquez will be presented as the guy who beat Pacman twice and then they are going to show the fights against Casa and Diaz, which are crazy highlights. They ned to show some highlight of Floyd with Chico, Gatti and Hatton, and Roger Mayweather being the greatest entertainer in boxing. Also, it's right after the Hatton vs Pacman fight, so it's still fresh in the public's eye. Yeah I have a good feeling about this fight. And Marquez can draw some numbers too, he ain't TATA or Zab and he's Mexican just like Margarito and even more exciting.

Those are all very good points. Please keep in mind that FMJ had to go to these lengths (vide below) to hype the fight:

Pacman is ok but he is like the most boring guy ever, he's got no charisma whatsoever. Roach does all the talking for him. I mean you want to watch a boring 24/7 have a look at Pacman's. If he's boring there how do you expect him to be this titan pay per view getter. Cause the point of every 24/7 is to get people to watch the fights. Floyd can get that attention and even more if he lets Roger speak like for 60% of the time. Marquez on the other hand is a Mexican and Mexicans support their fighter no matter what especially when they have the last one standing challenging the best.

Bingo! He actually did all the promotion. Let's not forget that Zab was also scared so he didn't say much to Floyd's face either and TATA...At least Oscar stood in front of Floyd and took it all, so did Hatton and you gonna have the same story with Marquez.
