I would be more worried about PBF's hands holding up long term. His defense is not the same at all as Roy Jones, Jones kept his hands by his waist all the time and speed was his only defense. PBF has more tricks than that and although his speed is certainly helpful you can still shoulder roll with less speed.

No power and slower speed means no longevity? What do you think fat james toney was?

        wrong perception IMO
        Delahoya
        Barrera
        Castillo
        JMM

Those are some guys who I would say have high-level, well-rounded skills. For some reason, I give Chavez less credit bc he was more mechanical to me. I always knew what JCC was coming to do.

Similarly, I wouldn't put Camacho on my top-tier list. And I love me some Camacho. Although he had a great chin, and was a tough kid, he can be bullied. No way a guy like him should lose to a Haugen.

          Exact opposite, dude.

Those high-level fundamentals are what will allow Floyd to stay on the ropes or in the pocket and NOT take a beating. Guys like Jones, SRL or Ali who defended with their feet and broke all the rules because they were athletic gods? THOSE are the guys who take beatings later in their careers.

Hopkins, Toney, Floyd. You will hit more elbow and shoulder than head.

            El***,

Good catch on an "attribute". We haven't discussed durability. That is an important component.

Then why, as his athletic gifts faded, was he unable to adapt and remain competetive with the best?

Jones' contemporary, Bernard Hopkins, is more versatile than Roy.

But we've seen a lot of variety from Mayweather Jr., too. Take an attentive trip through his back catalogue.

Or are we attributing his decline entirely to damage inflicted by the 2 KO losses?

Most naturally skilled fighter i have ever seen....its just a shame he never really tested himself to the fullest extent. not saying his resume is bad...but i just wish he got in the ring with some of the elite guys at welterweight or even Kostya Tszyu.

                    fair enough

I just like how JMM in prime had the skills to match his smarts
