James Kirkland Arrested in Texas, Weapons Charge

In what may or may not become a major topic over the next few days, undefeated junior middleweight contender James Kirkland was arrested on Sunday during a traffic stop in Austin, Texas, and booked by the Travis County Sherriff's Department when a weapon was found in the vehicle. Boxing reporter Dan Rafael wrote that Kirkland was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. [details]

ATTN ALL BOXERS (C/O KIRKLAND MARGARITTO) PLEASE STOP DOING ****** ****! - Just as boxing is making a bit of a comeback, and in one of the most exciting couple of years in a little over a decade, we got boxers that provide exciting good fights, doing things that just hurt the sport and themselves, to me this feels like a disaster for the sport. Kirkland was very promising and he provided very entertaining fights, At least with Kirkland this is something unrelated to boxing so his fanbase probably won't be too damaged, but his career could well be over if he doesn't work some magic in the court room or a get a sweet deal he can settle with.

What makes it worse, is he is one of those "boxing keeps me out of trouble with the law" stories...
