Popularity is another thing and Floyd does have alot of haters which contributes to how much money he draws for fights. Being a houshold name doesn't necessarily mean people like you and just because some people don't like you doesn't mean they won't watch your fights. In fact if they hate you they are more likely to get behind whoever your fighting for the chance to see you get ko'd.

true...i think the next big guy to carry the sport or be the most recognized face is going to have to be american....not saying that as a racial thing or anything.....but the big foreigners...there mainsream appeal just stops at a certain point.

Another good post. Let's be honest with ourselves, folks, the next DLH is more likely to come from MMA than from boxing. There is no obvious heir to DLH; it isn't simply a case of 'best boxer'.
boxing will never go away because you think mma is taking over.boxing is a gentleman's sport and it takes time to produce a good boxer.you only have to be brutal to compete in mma with a couple of fight experiences and you can win which in boxing is highly unlikely.a lot of us boxingfans don't enjoy two guys clinching or grappling eachother most of the fights.boxing is done with finesse!

Well look at the foreign big men we have now who dominate the sport, they come from an area of the world where we as Americans are socialized our whole lives to think of as evil and our enemies.

bcoz floyd knew he wont succeed as a "face" (pro wrestling parlance)

so he went the heel route... & he succeeded...

Here in San Diego, which is just a stone's throw away from Tijuana, my Mexican friends and co-workers doesn't even know Arreola exists. I even have to tell them that he is of Mexican descent, and a very promising undefeated heavyweight. But if you mention Pacman's name, I don't even have a chance to butt in, they'll be talking about his past fights, his coming fight against Hatton and any little trivial matters pertaining to him.

I work for a tribal casino and almost everyone knew who Pacquiao is. An establishment like a casino is the most diverse place you'll ever find. I was pleasantly surprised that an old Vienamese woman, an equally old Caldean guy and somebody from Albania are talking about Pacman while playing Blackjack. I overheard them saying they were all going to the fight this May. Caucasians, African-Americans and Asians that I've talk to, knows him. Some vaguely, but the younger ones knows him well.

Pacman is on the verge of being mainstream, if he's not there yet...

As the next big money maker of the sport maybe. I think that's between him and Ricky. If Ricky win's, I think people will jump right back on his nuts, completely oblivious that all he did was take out a featherweight.

But Oscar made a career fighting the best, lol Paq's just a circus show. You tune in to see him pummel stiffs. Hatton was the same way until he got exposed. lol So it would be kind of ironic if Hatton does the exposing this time around.
