if there is 'one' fighter that would captivate and 'carry' boxing, we havent seen him yet IMO...Oscam was a rare breed that was superbly marketed and was fortunate enough to box in an era where legends were present...

in the future, it would have to be a well spoken, charismatic KO artist that has cross-over appeal....not just to Americans but also worldwide

i dont see him yet...but he will come....

as for the time being; it isnt going to be floyd...if he comes back, it will only be for a couple of fights....it isnt going to be Manny...not in America at least...and he too only has a couple of fights left in him

it isnt gonna be Hatton...he also only has a short timeline...he might be done after May 2nd

the Golden Boy era, as a boxer, is done

BUT boxing will go on....there is enough talent that a collective effort in providing great fights will be the key...and that's what the sport will provide

But there's no more DLH fight there for PBF to make mega money. Guess who he needs to make mega dollar?
Pac would never be more popular than Ray leonard ever. DLH is this eras ray leonard in almost every way except woman beating. You have the understand these guys came from an era of USA Olympic boxing on TV. REGULAR TV. Amatuers meant something back then. No fighter will reach that level likely ever again. Not to mention, Ray Leonards resume is outstanding, pac would have to do ALOT to reach that level. Like clean out 135 and 140. Which wont happen.

PBF at this point could make mega money with any moderate star, DLH was a one time thing, but he, along with a name opponent, could make good money fighting each other. Floyd COULD fight the likes of a cotto/mosley/Jmm etc and make good money.

Not that i care that much, i wont be seeing any of it.

Its not like pac broke the bank against david diaz, and pac also didnt make as much as Floyd did against DLH, Nor did he shatter their ppv record.

Mak your post is correct, but like i said in my last post, look at how amatuer boxing was back in the day and look at it now. Look at how college basketball used to be before, when guys stayed til their jr year, soemtimes their sr year.

Its a different market now in boxing, nobody cares about our young fighters like we did before, the networks practically abandoned it.

absolutely agree EJ....its a different time and place now...and with the current issues with olympic boxing, the level of 'hype' that it used to provide for blue chip amateurs is gone....the parallels you point to with College Hoops is accurate...

it will need to be someone VERY special to attain that level of popularity again

the boxers who can generate the most money are probably pac, floyd, cotto and hatton.

but none of them approach the dlh level.

              What torch?

the only torch ODLH held was the poularity one and Pac is nothing like as popular as ODLH and never will be.

He's not attractive enough to get the female fans and his English is Poor so he won'ty get the casual english speaking fans and his Spanish is none exsistant so he won't get the casual hispanic fans.

the hardcore fans where already more Pac fans than Oscar fans anyway.

I wasn't claiming Pac is more Popular than SRL or DLH. I'm just saying if Pac is American He'll be more popular than them.

SRL, ALi & DLH was popular in the Philippines but their fights never cleaned up the streets like a Pac fight does all the time. See what I'm saying???

Floyd is a good salesman but the truth is Dlh sells that fight coz 90% of the buyers thought DLH will silenced PBF mouth. I betcha if they gone thru with the rematch they won't sell half of the the original buys. DLH-Pac fight was impacted by the economic slump and also with DLH 2 consecutive poor showing while in the DLH-PBF, DLH was coming from impressive KO of Mayorga.

Floyd will not fight Mosley. He'll demand too much money against JMM & that fight will not happen either. Cotto's a possibility only if he shows vulnerability against clottey. Pac-PBF will double the sale of PBF-Cotto. Guess who will PBF pick to fight Pac or Cotto???

As much of a great fighter Pacquiao is, he will never be a DLH. As far as that torch, it's been put out, because we have yet to see the likes of another DLH.

you only command money if you bring it, pac doesn't bring enough money to command ODLH money.
