WIlliams #5 at MW by The Ring Magazine WTF?

Why are you complaining about Williams being second at Jr MW? He beat Phillips who was ranked second at the time.

Because the only way, you should get somebody else ranking, is if you beat the Camp, because you obviously will be the Champ.

WIlliams had 1 win against a guy who got a gift desicion against Spinks.

Williams should be ranked like #5 or #6 at JMW, and if you are for some reason are going to rank him at MW it should be 9 or 10 if that!!!!!

i like paul williams, but with messed up rankings like this....its just going to add to his reputation as a very unlikable figure in boxing........people will watch paul williams fight just to go against the guy.......mark my words....the guy will NEVER!!!!!!!!!! be a fan fav.

But if havent done that yet. You got to beat people to be ranked.

Just because you might beat them, doesnt mean you should be ranked higher than them, basing your opinion on assuming!!!!!!!!

You have have to beat people to be ranked that high.

because, by your standar, I should ranked Pacquiao #1 at LW and #1 at JWW.

1 decent fight in a division, is not enough to get you top 5 in any division, uless you beat the champ!!!!!!!!!

Because Williams is a ****in boss. He tore apart Winky and is the most avoided boxer. No one -wants- to fight a huge southpaw beast of a man.

#5 does him justice. Now go fight Pavlik and make me happy. It could give Williams more fans and make him a draw.

I think beating Winky badly who should be ranked 1-3 should get him a top 3 ranking at middleweight. I know that no other middleweight could give it to Winky like that. I think Wink would beat Pavlick. So to me Paul is underated.

I seen this happen one to may times. Before you know it he will be ranked the best pound for pound fighter. Cotto should've been ranked higher after he beat Mosley. Too many times fighters being called the best without ever fighting the top fighters yet.

Styles makes fights. And Williams have the style to beat Guys like Winky and CLottey ect,

Wait till he fights a big puncher,

And besides beating just one guy, doesnt justify being top 5.

Thats not what I was sayin at all..... For one I don't believe guys should be ranked in more than one division, so lets get that out of the way..... With Williams thats a hard deal since he wont sit still long enough (actually same with Pacquiao since he is claiming a division that he hasnt yet fought in, but I digress).

All I was saying is its not all resume based when it comes to divisional rankings. For example with Paul Williams when he beat Phillips he showed that clearly he had the class to operate comptently in the JMW division. You can also compare his performance against Phillips to other fighters performances against Phillips to get a better idea. Also you can relate that performance against Williams and get an idea of how he might do against guys with styles similar to Williams. You do the same with guys that have been in the division for long periods of time too, its just you have more information (good and bad) to base it on.

As I said with Williams you also have data from the division just below and the division just above to get more of an idea where to base him within the JMW division (if thats where he is to be based).

I mean by your logic we'd always default to the guy who had been in the division longer, no matter how big the splash the new fighter made in his debut (less of course he beat the Champ).

Like I said its not like P4P where you have t base it on resume, because there are guys who we have no baselines in which to compare between.

Resume in a particular divisional ranking does play a role, but it is also based on conjecture of future performance.
