Mayweather vs. Marquez Negotiations Stalled on Weight

All Marquez did was CHALLENGE Floyd, He didn't agree to do everything Floyd wants. That's why they are in
Negotiations
No one has promised anything yet....
All he did was basically call him out to know if Floyd thought it a possibility for them to meet. Now MF'ers are like JMM needs to step up because he opened his mouth??? That is dumb, So you guys are saying that if you call someone out, that you basically give up ANY possible arguement about anything that has to do with the fight because you called him out?
If that was the case, no one would ever call anyone out. We already went through this with Pac and JMM 3. Pac said anytime anywhere and now he can hold the fight ransom and demand anything he wants from JMM or if he does not comply, JMM is ducking Pac. Typical BS BIAS.Comment

u pathetic! this shyt u post about anti-cotto fighters is truly sad! your boxing knowledge is very limited! then when ur opinion gets challenged you respond with ignorance!Comment

Maybe I missed something. Didnt PAC jump two weight classes to fight DLH? Wasnt that a fight for his legacy? And since JMM wants to follow PAC around like a jilted lover, why shouldnt he take the fight for his legacy? I think posters or getting to caught up on the 147lb limit (thats just the maximum). I believe PAC weighed 142 at the weigh in for the DLH fight. So why cant JMM do the same???
Now, nobody is telling JMM to blow up and look like Trinidad or Winky trying to balloon up to a heavier weight.
When Floyd fought Oscar at 154, PBF said "eff it" and just came it looking great and ripped under weight.
JMM should do the same.

DONT PUT ON THE EXTRA FIVE POUNDS!!
It is a "limit" not a requirement. Roy jones was 192 for his heavyweight bout.Comment

I don't think it's short sighted to want the best possible fight. The main reason Floyd isn't a mega-star in all sports is quite possibly because he's not in many competitive battles. He just outclasses everyone; save for a few close fights (De la Hoya and probably Castillo I).
I know Floyd can make a catchweight or jr. welterweight easily. I don't know what type of fighter Marquez is at 147. There's a line. Eventually you just reach the highest division your body can comfortably fight at- and that's that. Who here thinks because Floyd fought Oscar at 154, he should fight one division higher and take on Pavlik, Abraham or a true middleweight? The idea is absurd.
Marquez is a lightweight and supposedly he's supposed to jump at the chance to fight two divisions above his current weight? Honestly, we should be trying to get Shane to fight Pavlik, and Dawson in with Klitschko and just say **** weight, and the men who fight at each respective weight class.
I simply mean to say there is a limit. I don't feel as if we've seen any reason to suggest that Marquez can be the same fighter, fight at the same level, or offer us the same challenge to Mayweather that makes us excited when their names are paired together at any weight above 140; and even that's a real question mark.
Why not opt for the best possible fight?
Here is the problem.
If Marquez fights Mayweather at Welterweight.
Do you think he would be the first fighter to ever jump from lightweight to welterweight to fight a great fighter?
The answer is no.
So with that being said, I want you to understand that Marquez is in the same position allot of fighters in boxing history have been in.
Fighting Out of their comfort zone to achieve a truly great opportunity.
Take Cotto & Mosely for example.
Both of them were given the chance to fight Floyd in their careers and both turn it down. Because the circumstances were not right for them.
Well look what that decision has gotten them today.
Now they are both only dream that they can get another oppurtunity to fight floyd.
The point is this:
Ready or Not, Great Athletes always take advantage of the moment.
Thats what makes them great, the ability to do great things when they are not expected or ready 2.
I know it might seem like too much risk for JMM to fight Floyd at WW..
but guess what, Thats makes the win so much better if he wins.
If JMM accepts the fight at WW....All the pressure would be on floyd to not just win but dominate. and people would only expect JMM to be somewhat competitive. Where is the glory for Floyd in this match up???
So my point is that understand boxing history and understand that instead of making excuses for JMM, we should encourage him to truly take on a great challenge to become possible the first person to ever beat Floyd and if he does become possibly the greatest fighter his country has ever produce.Last edited by Saloth Sar; 04-12-2009, 08:25 PM.Comment

If I was Juan Manuel Marquez, i would go to welterweight... and BUST FLOYD'S ASS.
I'm tired of all these boxers talking **** and then coming with excuses. For THREE YEARS, Ricky Hatton kept saying that he was too big and strong for Floyd. And then immediately after the fight, he says 'Oh, wee me, I'm not a welterweight'.
STFU and go fight. Please. Do it the old-school way. Go from 126 to 135 to 147. All the junior this and super that is annoying. I'm so over it.
And, Floyd... move your scrawny ass back down to 140. Yeah, i know. It's not a glamour division. Whatever. STFU. As you once said " The fighter makes the belt. The belt doesn't make the fighter".Comment
