Mayweather vs. Marquez Negotiations Stalled on Weight

The fight just needs to be done at 140 got damn it. Its perfect, its like a catch weight fight. Marquez a 135 moving up to 140, Mayweather a 147 moving down to 140. Its perfect, no disadvantage for any fighter.


I want this fight to happen. As I think about it though, maybe Floyd wants to fight someone who is at 147. Which is why he wants a tune up at 147. Maybe PWill?? (going on a limb but hey its cool to dream.)

Is it easier to put on weight or take it off? So how is it not an advantage for somebody coming up in weight 5lbs then somebody coming down 7?

Here's how I view it. Mayweather has an argument for them fighting at 147 because Marquez called him out and demanded his name. Marquez has an argument for 140 because he'd be way to small at 147. The solution? THEY DON'T FIGHT!

The fight's a joke, even if it'd be a good "tune up" for Floyd, they still shouldn't fight. Personally I don't see the point of fighting at 144 or so when both would rehydrate to probably the same amount they would even at 147. Still the only reason for Floyd to fight at 140 is to get used to the weight so he can fight Pacquiao if he becomes the 140 champ. Still...the fight shouldn't happen.

Oh and Marquez-Morales is even a bigger joke.

The 5 punds could make JMM slower, and his power can diminish at the weight.

FLoyd can get a bit drain thats it.

And if he walks around 150, he should be able to make 140 easily. Peopl lose 3 or 4 pounds in a traning session!!!!!!!

When ray says "there'll be more pressure from the Americans"... and " we want a few fights before Mayweather", i took that to mean...

Now, here is what confuses me.

YOU say that hatton wanted May in the fall of 2005. But RH is documented asking for tune-ups in the winter of 2006.

Anything you or I said would be speculation, as we're not mind readers; but it must be reconcilable, because if he didn't want to fight him in Nov 2005, then why would he invite him to be ringside at the Maussa fight? And if Mayweather wanted to fight at 140 for his lineal title, then why move up to 147 and fight Mitchell in November 2005, and why say in November 2005 that he wanted to fight Judah after Mitchell, rather than Hatton?

Maybe Ray considered that the risk was much greater now that May had moved up to 147.

Or maybe between November 2005, when Hatton invited Mayweather to attend the Maussa fight in order to create interest in a fight between them, and Jan 2006 when that interview happened, Ray just had second thoughts.

Or maybe in Nov '05, Hatton thought Mayweather would be willing to fight him in the UK and by Jan '06 he realised he wouldn't.

Who knows?

On that last point, though, given that Hatton was the lineal champ, it does bug me a little that Mayweather completely ruled out fighting him in the UK. It is normal for the challenger to be the one who travels, and for the champ to fight at home. Mayweather was the better fighter, but Hatton was the champ.

Here is where I will seem like FMJ defender.

He was an HBO contract fighter, and Hatton was a Showtime guy. If you notice, HBO fighters RARELY go overseas to fight. Why should HBO - who has invested millions into PBF - allow their commodity to fight on a European network? At a funny time? It doesn't make sense for them to relinquish the broadcast rights. Not when they were negotiating to sign hatton anyway.

That was a purely Time Warner economic decision. Not PBF's.

If it were at 140, as a tune-up for fighting Pac at 140, why not? In any other scenario I don't think it should happen either, but in that one scenario, it would be both exciting and credible, IMO.

i will repeat myself if floyd is deadset on fighting at 147 then fight a true welterweight in cotto or mosley or hell even paul williams since he has to move down in weight. the fact that he wants to fight an old natural featherweight at 147 instead of a prime true welteweight is sickening and disturbing and yet floyds nuthuggers refuse to admit it!! Hell this is worse than what De La Hoya did against Pac who everyone here was destroying before their fight because at least he was fighting a challenger in his prime!!! I would be bashing any fighter for doing this not just floyd before one of his fans plays the "hating" card!!!

Waste of ****** words.... DLH wanted Pac.. not the other way around... In this case, the smaller man called out the bigger guy...JMM called out Floyd so just shutup.
