Has The Media Overblown The Antonio Margarito Scandal?

By Brent Matteo Alderson - Recently one of the sport’s beat writers commented that members of the media were overly critical of Antonio Margarito because they hadn’t bought into his prowess as a fighter and used the incident with the wraps to validate their original opinion of him in order appease their own egos. This writer also wrote that certain journalists were quick to disparage Margarito in an attempt to devalue the writers that held the Mexican slugger in high regard. Talk about some baloney, hasn’t everyone heard of Dempsey-Willard? [details]

margo needs to totally separate himself from capetillo and he also needs to take a lie detector test to prove he was ignorant and negligent about the plaster.

capetillo needs to take sole responsibility about the plaster and stop lying about it. he also needs to confess to all the times that he's put plaster in margo's gloves.

if margo is ignorant and negligent and capetillo confesses to total responsibilty beyond all doubt, then and only then will I even consider that margo deserves another shot at boxing.

otherwise margo can fight forever in obscurity in TJ.

I agree, Margarito should take a lie detector test to somehow clear his name from all of this. I do however think most people never liked the guy, he's not flashy or a trash talker, he's always been as the article states a blue collar type of guy, nobody ever wanted him on the top because he is not as talented as the other top welters, plus he is Mexican and the top dogs only allow a Mexican to shower in success for as long as they want to.

The whole scandal was fishy and the media jumped on it like piranhas on the red, yes this was overblown.

I agree with most of what you said, but although I agree he should take a lie detector test, it wouldn't prove anything, unfortunately, as they are not infallible. But it would be strong corroborative evidence one way or the other, and his not taking one does add to the su****ion against him.

One thing is being loyal and another is being ******, if I'm Innocent of some thing like that I will be screaming and fighting back, I will fired Capetillo and do anything to make sure people believe me, but the problem is that he hasn't done none of that, what makes him guilty, plus people forget that those blocks had some old blood stains wish make me believe that he used those before.

Richardson said the stain looked like a blood stain but it hasn't been tested for blood, or for DNA; only for plaster. Which is strange, because testing whether the knuckle pads contain any of Cotto's DNA is an obvious thing to do.

Mosley took a lie detector test and passed it...He later admitted to using steroids...so no a a lie detector test wont satisfy anyone.

Margarito was extremely popular after the Cotto fight. It was The Ring's Fight of the Year, although they scrubbed that after he was caught trying to cheat.

The vast majority of Mexicans on these forums have condemned him more strongly than anyone else has, so your idea that the condemnation of him is an anti-Mexican conspiracy is ridiculous. And Luis Resto was a Puerto Rican who moved to New York as a kid. Was the outrage over his case an anti-Puerto Rican conspiracy or an anti-American conspiracy?

The idea that Mexican fighters aren't "allowed to shower in success" is also ridiculous. De La Hoya (until his Pacquiao loss), Chavez Snr, Barrera and JMM have had nothing but adulation from the media.

The anti-blue collar conspiracy theory is also rather weak - the main reason Pavlik is so popular is his blue collar background.

It doesn't matter if you think the lie detector test is legit or not... most people believe it is and if margo can take it and pass, they will fall for it and give margo a pass... that's all margo is asking for another chance. he needs to do whatever it takes to get some kind of public support for his comeback and a lie detector test will aid in that endeavor.
