Exactly! A fight like this makes much more sense for Valero right now than jumping to someone elite like Marquez. I'm not saying Valero couldn't be the real deal, but seriously...have him fight someone people have actually heard of first to prove himself.

Soto, Juan Diaz, Katsidis, Casamayor, etc. would all make much more sense for him right now.

valero beat an old ass fighter and now he deserves a shot at marquez? Marquez is getting older and doesn't need to waste his time on an up and comer, and what happened to that once proposed lightweight tournament or is that now out the window?

              That's what I thought too. Shouldn't Valero-Katsidis and Escobedo-Reyes come next???

If Valero really wanted to make a real case for a fight with Marquez he should have been fighting live opponents since awhile back. Hell Valero vs. Katsidis is a good start. Perfect main event on HBO or Showtime.

Someone please tell me why Marquez SHOULD give Valero a fight. Who the hell is Valero? This guy is garbage. How many big name fights and wins does Marquez have on his belt? And who the hell has Valero fought? He has made a name for himself by fighting 39 year old chumps. Please...this guy will be exposed by a lesser talent than Marquez.

Putting Valero on no main event PPVs doesn't help his exposure. The average fan would see this as a tune-up fight for Marquez not to be taken seriously. And would probably be turned off by it being on PPV.

Marquez would likely school Valero with his counterpunching. Valero is too open for those Marquez counters.
