A prime Floyd got a SD against an over the hill Oscar, compared to past prime Whitaker losing a close decision to a prime Oscar.

Floyd stays on the outside most of the time. Whitaker mostly stayed inside, and used his skills to out fight and out box his opponents.
If Floyd had the same ******** mentality as Whitaker he would get just as much.

Difficult to say who is better. Floyds offense might give him the edge. But IMO Whitaker fought better opposition.

yes!!!!!!!!!!!! ppl really shouldnt pay too much respect to "back in the day" fighters. Prime de la hoya couldnt beat floyd and u all know it...... that goes for trinidad as well..... floyd is better than pernell was

Good posts, but I think Whitaker clearly has better defense than Floyd. Floyd got hit more in his last 2 fights than Whitaker did when he was boxing out of shape and after blowing Hollywoods with Jack Nicholson.

Hatton landed 63 punches on Floyd according to Compubox.

De La Hoya landed 122 out of 587 on Mayweather.

Now did Floyd REALLY get hit more in his last two fights than Pernell did?

I just think Whitaker is all around the better fighter and he proved it against better opposition, I think Whitaker had the better offense and defense, you're right about Mayweather having the better 1 punch power but that difference isn't that big, Whitaker's power is underrated, and I agree about intelligence, Mayweather and Whitaker are two of the smartest fighters in the ring in the past 20 years.

Just overall, Whitaker is better IMO.

ive seen pernells resume......... Do you think he could have did his thing to zab judah? I reall dont.... I think that **** only works on slow, b class fighters.... Fighters who are sick with some type of hand speed would give him problems imo

Yes, he could have. Especially considering Judah started out as Whitaker's protoge, Whitaker would have known exactly how to deal with him. And he's fought way more than slow, b class fighters.

zab judah i his prime could have cause pernell some major problems, protege or not.... dont get me wrong, pernell was amazing, but that **** doesn't work on a fighter who has fast, accurate hands.... most of his wins were over fighters who werent anywhere near as slick as he was..... that is why that defense worked so good......

hypothetically, if floyd were to fight prime pernell, floyd would land more shots, and pernell would simply expend more energy moving around like a drunk trying to avoid floyds fast ass hands
