I just think Whitaker is all around the better fighter and he proved it against better opposition, I think Whitaker had the better offense and defense, you're right about Mayweather having the better 1 punch power but that difference isn't that big, Whitaker's power is underrated, and I agree about intelligence, Mayweather and Whitaker are two of the smartest fighters in the ring in the past 20 years.

Just overall, Whitaker is better IMO.

Prime De La Hoya and prime Tito where not Counter Punchers, they were aggressive fighters which was good for* Whitaker. Floyd is a counter puncher, he would decision Whitaker prime vs prime.

I think my initial thought was correct about the competition part. The difference i think was that those guys were actually willing to take whitaker on. Mayweather im sure you know didint have the easiest time getting fights until he hit big on PPV. It wasnt as hard for whitaker to find the guys to take him on. I know with the recent stuff people who ducked mayweather gets lost, but i seriously think mayweathers non-welter resume would have been better. However at welter while i know there are many variables as to why he didint fight x fighter, i can only say he didint fight them, thus his resume is lacking, and thats where whitaker did some of his biggest damage was at 147.

I agree, some of the times it wasn't Mayweather's fault that the fights didn't get made but it still has to be taken into consideration. I hope he fights the top guys when he comes back, he still can do a lot to enhance his legacy and to prove just how good he is.

Whitaker had hand problems too, broke it once early in his career and once against Ramirez in their rematch that I can think of, there could have been more.
