you're talking about two very good , very big welterweights.

maybe even as good as the great carlos baldomir and super zab judah.......

floyd has to squeeze out a close decision against a past prime delahoya......and all of a sudden a prime oscar couldn't beat floyd? lmao
I dont think floyd squeezed out anything, de la hoya maybe won 5 rounds at the most.

Right....5 rounds is being nice..I had it 8-4...Mayweather.

Anyone who think that fight was close is a tool.

Nope. Whitaker beat A Prime Hoya, Chavez, McGirt and Floyd`s Uncle Roger. Mayweather a great fighter, but he dropped the ball vs. Hoya and Zab was a close fight until the chaos. Castillo beat him the first time. he avenged the loss, but still...Prime Whitaker beats this clown. I don`t know where you guyz get your info...I just watch the tapes or classics on Satelitte.

Skill-wise, Whitaker takes this hands down. Head to head, Whitaker's style would have been all wrong for Mayweather.

No it wouldnt have, mayweather and whitaker think the same way when they fight, they both have a tendency to sit and wait and outthink, they essentially do the same thing, in order to make a statement like that, you would have to tell me mayweather or whitaker have been outboxed by someone superior in their respective primes. Mayweathers best fights were against people who tried to actually outbox him. I dont know if mayweather would win, but skillwise they are very close with mayweather have only the edge in power and whitaker having the edge in experience.

Whitaker's right jab and unconventional ways of defending himself would trouble Mayweather more than anything Floyd would show Pernell. Yes that includes Floyd's straight right hand.

Floyd was awesome defensively, but he was more of a stand up fighter. Whitaker could turn the fight into a jabbing contest while using his top reflexes to avoid most serious punches coming back. Buddy McGirt did many things well that Floyd does in terms of his ability to slip and roll with punches. He also had the killer right hand that he could lead with or throw behind the jab. Now I know Floyd is a much more well rounded fighter when you factor in his total defense, but Whitaker faced an excellent technician who could adapt throughout the course of the fight. Mayweather has not.

I think this one comes down to Whitaker's jab and his tendency to work a little bit more round to round. He'd be initiating the exchanges early and he'd be finishing them later on with the straight left hand or those winging bodyshots. Floyd was devilishly fast when throwing single punches, but when did anyone really kill Whitaker with 1 single shot? Roger Mayweather in Pea's 12th pro fight? I dunno. Maybe I'm not giving Floyd enough credit for his ability to keep people preoccupied, but I can't see how he'd win a fight against Whitaker by throwing single shots or trying to outbox Pernell.

Agreed. That decision was clear as they get.

Mayweather vs Zab was not a close fight
