My take on it? Simple as this: If Hopkins or Jones weren't hurt, why not stand and trade instead of running?

These people saying Joe's hands can't hurt people don't have a clue. Take it from those who fought him and sparred with him -- he hurts you. It might not look like it, but the guy still has enough pop to get his opponents' respect, even with broken hands.

      Quote from Tony Booth.
damn samurai..i aint taking nothing from joe..but hopkins clearly was never hurt in that fight..and hopkins never stands and trdes that isnt his fight..i admitted joe won..so whats the problem

I agree to a point. Judges often score fights this way even if the punches don't land. Sometimes the guy who looked like he did more will get the round.

You ducked the most legit post in the thread!

It shouldn't and it's not a scoring criteria:

                1. Effective, Clean Punching
                2. Ring Generalship
                3. Effective Aggressiveness
                4. Defense.

3 gets ignored a lot when there is a star fighter like ODL. And recently has become a big deal to judges who forget the EFFECTIVE PART.

The problem is long and deep, but basically -it's going towards pro boxing being more like Olympic boxing which is a BAD thing.

The 4 point scoring criteria is ******. It really is all just part of asking who took more damage?

Ring general ship is just getting yourself into the position to score, but it means **** if you aren't throwing and connecting. A guy who pins his opponents on the ropes for all 3 minutes of a round but doesn't score did a good job on ring generalship, but it doesn't matter.
Clean effective punching and effectiveness aggressiveness are the actual punching part that scores the points to win rounds for you.
Defense is the other half of the equation, limiting the amount of damage your opponent does to you.

The real question of who wins a round is well put by Max Kellerman: Who would you rather have been in that round? They get a 10-9.

Yup, those are the four rules, with an emphasis on clean punching. Far too much in big fights, that gets overlooked. How in the world do you score INeffective aggression? Makes no sense.
