I remember Roger saying that Cotto would not be an issue. He already seemed to have a potential game plan.

floyd fought zab (coming from a loss to a bum) and baldomir (a bum) at welter. he later picked on an old man and on a little man

cotto fought zab, unbeaten quintana (i don't think he's an AAA boxer, but he did own paul williams), mosley (WW king currently) and clottey on june

you can't say you're #1 if you don't fight the best in YOUR weight class. he was the 147 champ, so stick by that and defend your title against the best in YOUR weight

i think that he would've beat cotto, margarito, williams, etc, BUT he didn't, so he should and will get blamed for that and for good reason

the other reason IMO is that when asked, he uses lame excuses. for example he talks about money, but baldomir NEVER offered as much money as cotto would've, just his belt (something cotto and marg had too). he also talked about cotto being too unexperienced and green at 140 (wtf... that's an advantage for him)

so that's basically it. he always had an excuse to avoid him. i'd understand if he preferred the big money fights (DLH and hatton), but he had more than enough time to do a good match with not just cotto, but with ANY top welter

BHOP was the one that said that

                Cotto:

"I fights who my managements tells me who to fights"

                Translation:

"Mr Arum told me not to say Mayweathers name because we both know I'd get destroyed"

                LOL

Cotto did no more to make the fight than Floyd. That's what I am saying. People make it seem like Cotto was chasing Floyd around. Both guys just let the fight not happen.

I thought Arum was setting that up when he had Cotto ringside for a Floyd fight. He probably thought he could cash in on the fight down the road.
