and Pernell did more than just run, he also fought when he needed to, tied up and used angles, and most importantly was able to use his right handed jab to keep Chavez off of him...hell he even fought dirty when he needed to. what he did was not potshotting.

besides, Chavez was slowing down leading up to that fight.
      Uhmm... No, Honestly No.

The commentators, ring observers, announcers all agreed it wasnt a close fight. Whitaker beat Chavez clearly, it wasn't competitive like you may think. Whitaker dominated the fight and beat Chavez in his own game of in fighting.

What pissed off everyone including the people cheering for Chavez the most that the fight wasn't close yet it was scored a draw when it should have been clearly given to Whitaker.

Seriously though how did you score that fight?

Are you that much of a hater.

Rewatch round 4 or 5 I think. Mayweather landed a single straight right hand, which would have floored Hatton had he not held onto Floyd.

Floyd fought everyone at those lower weight divisions, it wasn't until he moved up to welterweight is where he started fighting for money and avoiding the key stars in the divisions. I don't know how much people realize how dangerous of a puncher Corales was at lightweight, i even remember how they were labeling him the ''Tommy Hearns'' of the lightweights. Floyd literally walked straight through him.

And you mention how Taylor didn't have success at his boxing alone, although Whitaker did. He brings that same kind of threat IMO that Mayweather would because besides being a southpaw, you could say their styles are somewhat similar. Floyd would bring that kind of movement, he would put shot the same way( although he punched much harder than Pernell) and he would effectively tie up the exact same way thus dictating the pace. What other great boxer has Chavez fought that was on the level of Taylor, Whitaker, or a Mayweather that indicate that he could cope with that kind of hand speed? Hes definitely a great fighter, but if Whitaker has properly been given the decision and Steele continued counting allowing Taylor to get that split decision win, i don't even think we'd be having this conversation right now. Chavez is a great fighter, but i simply can't see him beating Mayweather and certainly not in his prime.

Castillio was bigger than Mayweather and taller, Chavez from what i remember was even shorter than Mayweather and started out around the same weight class. Castillio was a full lightweight and just because he trained with Chavez is no indication that Chavez is automatically better than him in every category. Castillio is one of the greatest lightweights of the past era.
First off, I assumed this fight was at 135. thats where Chavez was at his best, and most people complain that Floyd is too small for 140 and 147, so...
Second, there is no way that Mayweather has enough power to even tickle Chavez. apart from the fact that Chavez wouldnt get hit by everything Mayweather threw, Chavez has laughed off some huge punches like they were nothing.
Whitaker did NOT only box, he did a variety of things in there, and Mayweather does not have a stiff enough jab to keep Chavez off of him nor does he have the southpaw stance.
and for the bolded part...what other great boxer has Mayweather faced that showed he could cope with the kind of pressure that Chavez would bring? oh right, Castillo. the lesser version of Chavez.

speaking of which, Id like to know what Castillo did better than Chavez. Lets face it, he IS downgraded Chavez, although thats not an insult to him. I really cant see anything that Castillo did better than Chavez.

at least you can admit that

but seriously though...i find it HIGHLY amusing how floyd fanboys like to pit their hero up against ATGs yet, you guys can admit that he's ducked MAJOR threats since leaving 135

floyd's legacy STATES that NONE of these fights would have happened

                  true story

Prime JCC struggled and got schooled by Pernell Whitaker. Mayweather has everything on Pernell except defence
