True, it's easy to look so good when the fight is tipped in your favour from round one and you have almost no pressure on you and you're standing face to face with a guy with a three inch gash in his head that would've stopped any other fight.

Everyone keeps saying they know exactly what will happen, and continue to discount the gash that this thread is about.

Barerra knew Khan couldn't really hurt him and he walked through his flurries on a lot of occasions just so he could land one on Khan. An example of this is when the clash of heads actually happened.

Khan has been known to gas in the later rounds and if he didn't have the same speed to keep Barerra at bay and Barerra played his cards right in the earlier rounds by going to the body, which he was doing and trying to reserve energy, it's possible he could've got caught.

    We'll never know.

It's just annoying to me that people seem to think they know exactly what's going to happen, especially in a sport like boxing and especially under the circumstances that Khan won under.

When? He has only gone 12 once... and all three judges gave him every round. He's been 10 rounds once, and won 9 of them according to all three judges. The exception was when he was knocked down in the 7th. Other than that he's not gone beyond 8.

WEll if he's gonna keep fighting they might as well rematch Khan vs Barrera. Barrera basically had no chance after the cut which should have ended in a no-contest. In a rematch both guys can prove what they couldnt in the first. Khan could prove that his win was legit that he's too damn fast for barrera and Barrera could prove he still has something left and only lost because of the massive cut.

Maybe I should have just said slow down as the fight progresses?

You can win rounds even when tired btw.

Yes I was very puzzled by that post, as well. Still, Khan's stamina has never been tested under pressure for 12 rounds. Even a faded Barrera put him under far more pressure than St. Clair ever managed, and it's as unfortunate from Khan's point of view as much as from Barrera's that the cut happened, as he needed the tough test that an uninjured Barrera could have provided, at this point in his career.

I agree with those who deplore the way Khan's camp and much of the media are spinning it. The fact is that although I think Khan would have come through the test, due to the obvious improvements he's made under Roach, we'll never know for sure. As I've pointed out before, it's easy for a fast, athletic fighter to look good for less than a round against a slow pressure fighter, but it's far harder to look good for 12 rounds - look at Ali-Frazier I.

Once Barrera had that cut (or rather, gash), he could no longer judge distance, so the fight should have been stopped in round 2, as soon as it became obvious that his corner wouldn't be able to staunch the bleeding. The ref and fight doctor shouldn't have waited until round 4 before even inspecting it, and should not have asked Barrera whether he wanted to continue, it should just have been stopped. My guess is that they were worried about the crowd's reaction to a NC, but that's no excuse. Apart from anything else, they were endangering the health of a boxer by letting him continue for so long with such a serious injury, and their first responsibility should always be the boxers' health.

So many excuses! cuts and injuries during fights are parts of the sports. Pacman lost to Morales during their first bout because of cut, and oozing bloods covering his one eye, but Pacman did not complain but rather accepted it gentlemanly as defeat. However, I favored rematch to see how would it be without cuts!

Once you get a cut and see blood, your mindset changes. I am a Barrera supporter but if he was fighting well he would have atleast have won one round!! Maybe Khan has been watching Holyfield tapes?

                      Difference is

-People accept that the cut was a big factor in Paquiaos fight
-You couldn't see Paquiaos bone through his cut
-His cut was three times smaller than Barerras
-Not everyone and their dog thought the fight should have been stopped immediately because of it which is why it went to the 12th round
