then why did he let Hopkin hang on to Calzaghe all night without doing nothing? He didn't say that exact statement, true. Nonetheless, I'm sure he's said what I've virtually heard EVERY ref ever say to fighters when they were in the back. Something along the lines of 'When you get inside, I'll let you work, but if you're not, I'm pulling you apart' etc. etc.
Nonetheless, EVEN IF THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. You do have to work on the inside. And when two fighters are usually holding on the inside, the ref gets into the habit of breaking them up. And thankfully, fights would be ridiculously boring. I'm all for mauling a guy, but you gotta throw SOMETHING. Cortez shouldn't change his reffing habits because Hatton is in the ring, he's a guy who seperates fighters once he sees him on the inside and not working. He rarely gives time, and the Hatton camp was OKay with him, wanted him before the fight.
END OF STORY.
sorry Cortez was a biased butthead and he cost Hatton a decent shotComment

no, PBF hit him and he went head-first into the ringpost - THEN he went down. It wasn't a knockout punch, he got up again.
he was never down again whilst the fight was on, fat boy jumped in for the last time and then Hatton fell over himself.Comment
