as sports like UFC ans WEC gain popularity, its just a general question as to whether boxing is losing popularity due to money, contract demands, politics, etc. personally, i love boxing, and a great fight gets me more excitied than any other sport, but i live in ft. lauderdale, and i gotta admit, when i go to these bars to watch the big fights, there are a lot more people there to watch the UFC bull****.....

boxing is headed in the right direction, but UFC is giving it a run for its money.....it was just a simple question, no need to turn it into some kind of american idealistic argument.
I posted that because the idea boxing is dying is ludicrous given the boom it's experiencing in Europe and Asia. There's only one place where it's not booming. So one can only surmise that it's from that place that people are saying "Boxing is dying." How do I know? I live in that place.

I only even started watching UFC this year, as I said in my original post, I find the standard of stand-up fighting too low to make it watchable for the most part. I only brought up the UFC as a model.

right, but you don't live in europe or asia, so how do you know its "booming?"

yes, those countries treat their homegrown stars great, but if things were booming, it would seem like everybody would be running over to those places to fight, and not doing so as a last resort.

Good post. As I do live in the UK I can tell you that boxing is CERTAINLY NOT booming over here. I remember when my whole family sat down to watch Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn 2, and the fight even had its own special on Jonathan Ross !

Boxing isnt a mainstream sport anymore in the UK. Besides Ricky Hatton and maybe Amir Khan, no one knows anything about the sport besides actual boxing fans.

Gone are the days where boxers were the BIGGEST stars in sport.

personally i think all of you are biased boxing fans who only love boxing i get it you will never talk bad about boxing well because thats the only thing u love. But this person who made this thread made a lot of points. Im not saying boxing is dying but little by little the mma world is gaining and actually pulling some fans away from boxing. You can tell its not and that boxing is reserrecting and whatever else your gonna say, of course u guys are gonna defend it all of you are die hard boxing fans that dont want too see whats actually happening. Look bottom line is u all are peole that dont like mma because of the whole grappling and jui jitsu game, i get it too you its not very exciting but too alot of people it is and the reasoin is because they get it they understand the level of skill it requires too not only be able too stand on your feet and ****, but also defend takedowns, submissions, and some guy on top of you beating the **** out of you. I love boxing i always have but i also love watching mma because i understand it and i have done both boxing and mma. I think its dumb saying boxing is dieing on here not because its not true but because the response is always gonna be negative, there wont be any one willing to admit that there are problems with the way boxing is run. I dont know who watches college football (american) in here but if you do you know that they have a system called the BCS it pretty much is a computer that uses all kinds of information to chose who plays in the championship game and then they choose who plays in the other bowl games that dont really matter, and alot of times the two teams in the championship no one is really sure if they are the best two teams deserving. So what should be done is too have a playoff system just like the nfl so the best team wins by challenging each other. But they wont do it because its tradition and to change it now doesnt make sense if some people are still watching but every year people keep complaining and saying that there team should have gone to the championship game. Now take boxing which is pretty much in the same boat there is so many different titles that not everyone really has to challenge each other, all they have to do is fight there mandatory until somebody finally offers them enough money to fight a harder oppenent and every year in boxing you here fans cry out well he was ducking so and so and these two guys should fight each other because they're the two best guys out there. Nothing changes the system stays the same and no one blames it on that. Think about if made every division only have one championship belt of the wolrd than wouldnt that force boxers too fight each other well of course it would. But no one wants too do anything too change it they rather just let it go and keep complaining on why they dont get the best fights too happen. oh and think about it of course boxing isnt doing that good why do think these past two years they have been trying too put on better fights, well because mma is a threat and because they actually put on great fight cards. Too all real boxing fans if you really love this sport so much you wouldnt defend the f***ed up system, you would speak out against not against boxing but against a flawed system that enables figthers too duck each other

Not many people will attempt to read this poorly constructed paragraph with numerous run on sentences. Ever hear of writing in paragraphs and using correct punctuation?
