I don't think Toney could've beaten a prime Hopkins at middle but I'd give him the edge at 168.
I absolutely see what you are saying, I don't know... 1991 Toney (Nunn, McCallum, Johnson...) beats any Hopkins IMO. On the other hand the Toney who fought Tiberi doesnt get stopped only because of that ATG chin.

mute, I don't know. Two of those three fights could've gone either way, Johnson put him on his ass and I'm not sure Toney can lull Hopkins to sleep like he did Nunn. That said...my GOD was he a beast then!

Yeah they were close fights. What I am thinking is Hopkins looked dominant in ALL his fights 97-04, but if you throw McCallum, Jonhson and Nunn in there (especially Nunn, stylewise with that movement and handsped), I really doubt Hopkins would look all that dominant. The thing about the Johnson and especially the McCallum fight, Toney was a beast, and the fights were close because well... McCallum and Johnson were also spectacular in those events (and McCallum almost always in general).

McCallum and Hopkins are the only fighters I have seen who could keep an incredible rhythm at a ridiculous age like 35-36. No doubt it would be close a close fight between Toney and Hopkins.

Agreed. Really, Toney's performances against McCallum are just breathtaking...they were both breathtaking. Those two fighters KO everyone at 160 today without breaking much of a sweat. Stylewise, Nunn was a handful, which is why he (and maybe Tarver) were the only two fighters Roy Jones really avoided in his prime.

haha knew you loved that fight. I have never seen such a combination of technique and high pace in any other fight.

EDITL and I think the 1st one is possibly my fav fight all time btw. maybe. surely ranks high.

Hell yeah, man. Definitely in my top five, along with Ibeabuchi-Byrd, Corrales-Castillo and Nelson-Fenech II among others.

ATG, no doubt. He would've stayed longer at 168-175 I really think going to heavyweight hurt his legacy despite beating Holyfield.

Toney-MacCallum lacks definitely suspense but as far as what they BOTH show as the fight goes on it is amazing, and so evenly matched. Corrales, Castillo is probably unbeateable for suspense. I love Nelson-Fenech 2, but it is impossible not to love Nelson in general IMO.

How come you like Byrd-Ibeabuchi so much? I mean great fight, but it never struck me like the others did. I will probably watch it again to check since it is not a long fight anyways.

Oops...meant Tua-Ibeabuchi, not Byrd lolol. Although seeing Byrd fall to the canvas like an actress was pretty hilarious.
