You state that Hopkins has stated that from here on out he is gonna fight aggressively after Pavlik? That he isn't gonna assume that the judges are gonna give him a decision? Lol. Seems to me if he would have adopted that plan years ago after he failed to go toe-to-toe with Jermain Taylor, he would have made a better account for himself in those fights and in the Calzaghe fight.

Despite the promises of more agression, lets not get too carried away with present day Hopkins. He's a mostly defensive, dirty tactic using, cagey veteran fighter who wins and loses ugly. Even when he clearly loses his fans will go to great lengths to prove he still won despite being outlanded and inactive for half of the fight. At this point Hopkins should just move on. I mean, its not like anyone is clamoring for Hopkins/Calzaghe. Hell nobody is even talking Hopkins/Wright II and a strong case can be made for a rematch there.

gtfoh.....you're the first person i've heard even insinuate that a rematch between hopkins and wright was warranted.......that fight was a ud, hopkins-calzaghe was a sd, and waaaaaay more ppl thought hopkins beat calzaghe than thought that wright beat hopkins.

Tyde, you're not gonna like this, I thought Wright did really well against Hopkins, and I found his loss more credible for a win than what Calzaghe managed. Winky gets put down way too much for that one, he did good and he was completely spent after 10 rounds. Dead tired. I had Hop by a point (I had a even round on my card, 8 I think, compubox even backed up my sight during the broadcast for that round with virtually even punch stats).

      *ducks and dodges rocks*

The stereotypes are getting old mate.

And I just love your response. NONE of that has to do with the fight, and shows exactly the way Calzaghe fans are.
thats where your ignorance lets you down buddy !
I am a boxing fan first and formost ,i am a Hopkins fan and a Calzaghe fan ...i cheered Hopkins on to beat pavlic !
For me Hopkins fought poorly against calzaghe and was so negative it made it terrible to watch !
I hated watching the great Hopkins an ex con on the floor trying to cheat himself in to points like he did ....in fact i found it cringe worthy to watch !
And OK although Calzaghe wasn't that effective.....but at least he was trying to force Hopkins to fight and set the pace of what ever action we were watching !
Hopkins wanted out when he hit the deck complaining/shaming about that imaginary low blow.....as he couldn't keep up to the work rate Calslappy wanted to set !
So my point being do we realy need to see this again ???
Hopkins doest want Calzaghe look good wining so all he will do is just spoil and make an ugly fight of it !

disagree. calzaghe won the majority of his rounds by being the "more active" fighter. i remember yelling at hopkins to at least "throw" some punches....

when there's very little happening in a fight, they usually give it to the more aggressive guy......if hopkins fights more than he did the first fight, not only will the rematch be better on the eyes, i think it improves his chances. sometimes the best defense is a great offense, and i think if hopkins fights more and makes joe go on the defensive a little more, that does more to disrupt joe's offensive output than just sitting back and holding all night.
The point is that Calzaghe does best when he can counter someone else; he struggles against counter-punchers.

come on. he promised aggression and a ko after the first taylor fight...richardson was begging him to go toe-to-toe...he refused...when the cards were read and he realized he lost on ud, he wanted to ***** about corrupt judging, the man, taylor being an hbo house boy, etc. it was ridiculous...all i'm saying is if hopkins continues to fight, he's gonna win some and he's gonna lose some...just spare us the bitching when you lose...

lol...if wright didn't gas from moving up two divisions, he would have handed hopkins a loss easy. he was the aggressor all night, plus he was outlanding hopkins all fight...hopkins did get in a good headbutt..lol

as far as hopkins/calzaghe is concerned, only people who think hopkins "beat" calzaghe is hopkins fans, which there aren't many, but they are noisy...

                • Calzaghe threw and landed twice as many punches as Hopkins did. Only people scoring the fight with extreme biases gave Hopkins the win and 99% of them only gave Hop a ONE POINT win... At the very least, Calzaghe won 7 rounds, but more than likely he won 8 or 9. If JC lost the decision it would've been a total robbery. The Hop/Calzaghe SD was kinda like the Mayweather/DLH SD, everybody knew who really won (except nuthuggers, haters and trolls) making a rematch pointless! Neither fighter was landing many "clean effective" punches, mostly because Hop was mauling and headbutting all night to try and survive the pace JC was setting that he couldn't keep up with and had to buy time just to finish on his feet...

                  • The fight was dull, but that should not matter.

Hopkins is old, and has no choice to slow the bout down.

Calzaghe was wobbled several times, and Hopkins landed far mroe cleaner and harder punches in the bout.

Hopkins left the bout the same as he entered.

He couldn't, he was dead at middle for Taylor. He stretched that out one fight too many. That's why you saw the boost in stamina performance for the most part at LHW. People talk about how abysmal the Wright fight was, but Hopkins was fighting all 12 rounds and he hadn't thrown close to that many punches again until Pavlik.

Check his output for the Taylor fights then compare it to his jump to LHW. But, even for a LHW I guess his punch stats aren't too good. . but it's a big difference compared to the energy he had for Taylor.
