Because claiming that clip - in which Calzaghe didn't land a single punch - accurately represents the whole fight is like claiming a cartoon caricature of someone accurately represents that person - in both cases, there is a grain of truth in it, but it has been grossly and purposely exaggerated. The fact is, opinion will always be divided, and the subject has already been done to death and I don't understand why people still want to debate it in any detail now; but plenty of neutrals gave it to Calzaghe, including many boxing experts, and including The Ring's fight report, which scored it to Calzaghe by one round. And of those boxing experts I read who did score it for Hopkins, every single one of them agreed that it was extremely close - and no extremely close fight can ever be called a robbery. And it's not as if you can call it a hometown decision!

I notice that you keep saying in other threads that Pacquiao beat Marquez, end of story, on the grounds that that's what the official scorecards said, and you say that the fact that many boxing experts disagreed with the decision is irrelevant; and yet you refuse to accept the official scorecards in this case. That shows serious bias, IMO.

• Why would Calzaghe even think of taking the risk?

• Won't happen. Calzaghe won't come out of retirement to give a man that almost beat him a rematch. He's not man enough. No matter how much money. Retiring undefeated apparently means more to him than giving fans a couple more fights.

Pops, just fight Dawson and call it a day.
agreed !

i re-watched it earlier & even though b-hop gave joe trouble in the first few rounds , his wrestling skill's & his acting skill's bored me to tears !

other than THAT right hand early on in the fight , he did nothing exciting from then on !

let dawson beat him & THEN retire !

I agree 100% also. There's all these people here that want another Hopkins hugfest. He clearly lost to Joe, no doubt about it. The fights with Wright, Tarver, and Taylor were some of the most boring fights I have ever witnessed. I hope there will never be another Hopkins fight ever again. He should just fight Hatton and the both of them can hug each other to death.

Whoa, hold on - no one is forcing you to watch his fights! There are plenty of people who do appreciate his skills, and who would very much like to see him fight again - why should they be denied in order that you don't have to watch him, when you don't have to watch him anyway?

I respect any fighter's honest reasons for retiring. He was not ducking. I would have preferred him to have had one more fight first, against Dawson, but I respect his reasons for not being able to get excited enough about that fight to postpone his retirement. There's no point in going over them with you because you have already shown yourself to be totally closed minded and a hater.

What bugs me most about this thread is that Shaefer is trying to lure Calzaghe out to fight Hopkins rather than Dawson, when Dawson is the fighter most people would want Calzaghe to fight if he did come out of retirement. But apart from me, no one is complaining about that.
Well I guess I'm not the only one quick to judge; I JUST asked you to post the reasons, because I didn't read the reasons he stated whenever that was.

• Have no desire to see this now that Calzaghe doesn't have his title. I'd rather see Hopkins fight Adamek or Tarver.

I'm all down for Calzaghe staying in retirement.

I mean this basically sums up the fight:

Here Calzaghe throws 5 punches and lands 0. Hopkins throws one that lands cleanly. I'm sure compubox had calzaghe landing 3 of these punches too. In real time it's a blur of awkward looking, often slap-like punches. A closer look reveals the truth which for most of the rounds, hopkins landed the clean/effective punches, while calzaghe threw many ineffective punches. That was the story of the night. Now this is where people disagree on scoring. Some will always score for aggression alone. Others will score for clean/harder shots, ring generalship, defense and strong emphasis on EFFECTIVE aggression.
Hopkins also throws one headbutt which landed. So yeah I guess you could say it summed up the fight in a way.
