I think we can only say as fans that if hatton beats manny then fights marquez and wins he could prob be called p4p#1 now!!! Anyone disagree???
Hatton Sr. Says Ricky Craves the Pound-for-Pound Title

No, he was ranked #2 long before that, and was moved to #1 when Mayweather retired. He got his ranking because of his wins over Barrera, Morales, and Larios; and the win over Marquez cemented his ranking.
DLH (who was not ranked as a Welterweight) and Diaz (who was not a top Lightweight) had nothing to do with it. As someone pointed out, those last two wins did cement his ranking in some people's minds, but he had the ranking anyway and would have continued to keep it even if he had stayed at 130lb.Last edited by Dave Rado; 03-04-2009, 10:50 AM.Comment

If he beat them both decisively then I think that would probably be enough, but it's up to The Ring's panel of independent boxing experts, and their subjective opinions, and nothing can be certain. It would also depend on what the other leading P4P fighters did in the meantime.
Shame Cliff Rold apparently isn't following this thread - it would be interesting to know his take on this.Last edited by Dave Rado; 03-04-2009, 10:40 AM.Comment

I'm not sure their are that many people left in the fight game who are highly respectable and unbiased, much less "experts".
I don't trust the judges, referees, promotors or managers and I personally don't put much stock I put into anything "Ring" related anymore.
That being said I agree with your posts on this subject moreso than anyone else in the thread.Comment

The panel of experts who compile The Ring's ratings don't work for The Ring. They are biased only in the sense that everyone in the world is biased; but they are not biased in terms of having any link to GBP. The panel is listed here.. It is about as unbiased a panel as it's possible to get.
Thanks.

the problem is that both are smaller than hatton, so hatton has to beat either cotto or mosley along with both pac and jmm to be p4p #1Comment

It might, it might not. The fact that both Pac and Marquez would have been fighting above their peak weight when they fought him would certainly be taken account, and would count against him. P4P is a measure of how elite someone is at their peak weight divided by the number of pounds at that weight. If he won decisively against both fighters, that would probably be enough, IMO. If he won narrowly it might well not be. Plus it depends what all the other highly ranked P4P fighters did in the meantime.Comment
