pound for pound title he speaks of is public acclaimed... hatton wants that status, too bad he doesn't have the skills to do so..

If you beat the best, then you earn the right to call yourself the best. Most people on here have Pacman as No.1,but if Ricky beats him those same people are going to say it doesnt count because its Hatton? GTFOH!!!!! nobheads!

why do Hatton and his dad think if he beats pacman then he will automatically be P4P#1. if hatton beats pacman then JMM would move to #1 not Hatton. Hatton would move up to around 4

If Hatton beat, Pacquiao, Mosley and Cotto convincingly I would consider him pfp1.

Hatton beats the so-called P4P champion then he takes the P4P#1 (it's a subjective and usually biasedly ranked label) spot or close to it since Hatton has beaten many champions already, including P4P ranked ones!

That's not how it works, if Pacquiao fought and lost at SuperWelterweight the person who beat him would not become PFP1#

Pacquiao would drop in rank, Hatton would go up, and the no.2 would probably go one. It's a ranking, you don't take the position of the person you beat.

You mean because you don't like him? That's an irrational statement.

If he beat Pacquiao and Marquez decisively (which I consider unlikely, but still), and if Mayweather stayed retired, I think it's quite plausible that The Ring would rate him at #1.

Hopkins is unlikely to be rated #1 at this stage in his career unless he gets another huge and unexpected win, like maybe KO-ing Dawson (and he doesn't want to fight Dawson).

I doubt there's anything Vasquez or Mosley could do in the next year to make them #1 either.

When you consider who the current top 5 are, I don't see how anyone could say that beating both Pacquiao and Marquez decisively wouldn't be likely to be enough to give someone who is currently ranked #8 The Ring's P4P #1 ranking.

If he beat them narrowly and controversially it would be a different matter of course.

                    The Ring's current top 10:

                    1) Manny Pacquiao
                    2) Juan Manuel Marquez
                    3) Bernard Hopkins
                    4) Israel Vazquez
                    5) Shane Mosley
                    6) Rafael Marquez
                    7) Ivan Calderon
                    8) Ricky Hatton
                    9) Celestino Caballero
                    10) Vic Darchinyan

In my opinion, Hatton is 20 pound bigger man than Pac, so if Hatton wins a close fight to me it means that Pacquiao is still a better fighter, pound for pound.

Hatton should have to win impressively to pass Pacquiao on the list.

I guess a similar situation would be if Chad Dawson fights Paul Williams at 175 and wins and then says he should be p4p #1 as a result.
