Why Boxing Is Better Than MMA

Well, boxing has been around for a very very very very very long time. So it has developed an immortal fan base at which people will talk about fights from years ago.
MMA has roughly started 1984 with the organization Shooto. So you can see why fights dont seem like they have been talked about for yeeaaars after they occur. In terms of technical fighters, boxing trumps mma by far, so that may also be a factor. In terms of overall technical potential. MMA trumps boxing by a landslide. Because MMA has more skill sets than punch, block, sway.
(the following is for all this boxing better than mma and vice versa crap)
At the most Boxing has three processes of fighting. Punch, block, sway. If you want to break that down more then its high punch, body punch, block, and sway. Where as MMA has, kicking, punching, knees, elbows, wrestling, submissions. Break that down even more you have. Head kick, body kick, leg kick, high punch, body punch, knees, elbows, single leg take down, double leg takedown, high crotch take down, side mount, full mount, half guard, full guard, butterfly guard, north and south mount, twister side control, truck guard, then you have literally hundreds of submissions(I can name them but it will be a very long list).
So when you compare the two. MMA requires alot more technical ability than boxing, however, MMA is relatively young so you see dumb asses that dont know how to fight in it. Give it as much time as boxing has had and you have a very damn good combat sport.
Plus, if you take a MMA fighter with no pro-boxing experience and put him in a boxing ring against a boxer with equal weight and competition(if the mma fighter is a champion put him against a boxing champion) the MMA fighter has a chance and can put up a decent fight. If you take a boxer with no pro-mma experience and put him in a cage or ring with an mma fighter of equal weight and competition(if boxer is a champion put him against an mma champion) the pro-boxer doesn't have a chance in hell. The level of technical, physical, and mental requirements is too vast for the boxer to manage.
Boxing will never die though. So dont get me wrong. Im just telling a 100% unbiased truth.Comment

Also, don't forget the innovative nature of MMA. Right now, the rubber guard is the height of fashion. Two years ago, no one even thought of using the rubber guard. Shotokan Karate is the next trend of striking starting to come in along with more aggressive grappling techniques from Catch.Well, boxing has been around for a very very very very very long time. Yea but that's what makes boxing so great.Think about this for one second....Also, don't forget the innovative nature of MMA. Right now, the rubber guard is the height of fashion. The greatest matches in the history of MMA are matches in which there was a lot of striking. Matches like Bonner vs Griffin are considered great MMA fights because there was so much action in stand up.
The so called "limitations" of boxing is what lends it to be so exciting. It's a more pure sport, it's not fighting. It's all about striking, stamina and will. 12 rounds fights make for a much different dynamic than 3 round fights.
I like MMA but for me, boxing brings and excitement that MMA could never achieve because of the dynamics of it.Comment

And had a jiu-jitsu background too, he even written a book about close-quarters combat incorporating boxing, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu. The picture of my sig comes from a page of the book.I like Boxing because it's fighters and really the true fans of the sport really don't need to create threads to bolster their insecurities with grappling.
Or clinch fighting for that matter.
As a matter of fact, let's just kill them off right now.
Jack Dempsey was also an accomplished wrestler as well.Comment

Well to be fair, MMA has only been relevant to the masses for just a few years. There are fights no doubt I'll remember in the years to come (Cro Cop vs Fedor, Bonner vs Griffin, Randy Couture vs Tito Ortiz). It's just tough to compare it to Boxing because Boxing has been around for over 100 years with each generation spawning new stars to this day.
Overall relevance in history of course Boxing will reign supreme, but keep in mind Boxing in the late 1800s-early 1900s was looked at as a barbaric sport as some look at MMA today. But MMA IMO has a bright future and will continue to spawn new stars of their own.Comment

That was an entertaining fight."The Magician" John Dodson vs. Jose Villarisco
Pretty much MMA's version a week before Diaz/Marquez. Not better, but comparable.
That's why I find it ironic that certain fanboys of the Boxing community would label MMA as either barbaric, human **** fighting when Boxing was called that when it first became a combat sport in modern times.Well to be fair, MMA has only been relevant to the masses for just a few years.
