This is exactly the problem with how some fans seem to look at Ruiz - they look at his record and say "oh look at all these guys he's fought." What the record doesn't tell is what HAPPENED in those fights, and HOW Ruiz got to fight them in the first place. Ruiz was a New England regional fighter who was brought in as an oppoent for David Tua, and got knocked the **** out. He was going NOWHERE until he signed with Don King. Then, all of a sudden, he rose in the rankings.

The problem was, however, that he didn't have the ABILITY to compete against world class fighters. So what did he do? Resort to PREVENTING actual boxing from occurring by holding excessively. And his connections with King allowed him to get away with it. Perhaps even more disgracefully, he blatantly overacted to force "low blow" calls in several fights (Thunder, Holyfied II, Johnson). Again, the connections with King helped here.

Ruiz is perhaps the pre-eminent case in boxing history of a guy who wouldn't have even sniffed a title shot - let alone "won" - without connections to powerful promoters. That a fighter of such limited ability to be allowed to essentially violate the rules of the sport with impunity, and get title shot after undeserved title shot, should offend anyone who values sportsmanship and fairness in boxing - and believes that the best fighters should be allowed to compete fairly WITHIN the rules.

Ruiz is an offense to all that, and his holding of the title, and getting all these shots is a STAIN on the history of the sport.

I did and thought he lost them all. I think his second fight with Valuev was closest where Valuev was doing more of the holding late.
          No way he beat Chagaev.

McCline? Who hasn't McCline lost to? And don't go back to 2001 or 2002 for your answer. McCline is like the energizer bunny. He keeps losing and losing and losing.

I down for fresh blood on the circuit. Quit trotting out an undeserving Ruiz.

ruiz has had 1 meaningless fight in 10 years.tua has destroyed many opponents not just ruiz.I have most of the heavyweights of the last 15 years fights.entire careers.I've seen every ruiz fight & he's boring but effective.vitali is a farce! Living off a 6 round tko loss to lewis(fights are 12 rounds not 6 so I don't care if he was leading, he would have got ko'd by an out of shape lewis)who has vitali fought? Quit against Byrd, loss to lewis,oh yeah he beat davarryl williamson,a fat out of shape corey sanders, fat out of shape kirk Johnson, danny Williams,I give credit for larry donald & Sam peter.he's looking past gomez who I think will best him.he's ten times the fraud champion compared to ruiz.wlad is the only hw who has earned his championship.

there is a reason the old heavyweights keep getting recycled because the next generation of up & comers suck! I'll change my opinion when some of them start beating the old guys.arreola can start with mccline.haye took out Barrett so that's a start but there are many to go yet.JAMES TONEY is the best heavyweight out there & he's coming for you peter & you klitschko sisters wladirina & vitalia...LOL!I can't wait till masksev fights ruiz! If any of you need a hug I'm sure ruiz will give you one

                  Prediction:

Valuev will beat Chagaev by SD

Ruiz will beat Valuev by MD

The WBA will then force Ruiz to face Chagaev again.

Wow, here we go again.....I can see it now Ruiz will eventually win the title again just to be embarrassed and outclassed by another former middle weight.
