I think it is obnoxious when people confuse Rap with Hip Hop 2 completely different things that happen to have stylistic similarities. Country has a guitar is it considered rock? Metal and Punk both yell are they the same?

And Zulu Nation started it all in Hip Hop, Afrika Bumbata etc. Sorry but I am educated on my Hip Hop, and I hate when people take things at face value. Tons of rappers consider themselves Hip Hop artists and that is just not true.

Hip Hop has several elements Beatboxing, break dancing, turntables, MC, and Graffiti art. Rap is money and materialistic items. Perception of having money. Blackalicious has a song straight burning guys like this called Deception actually.

Sorry for the rant but I think everyone should know about what actual hip hop is. Just like Yes should know why some of the greatest ever get the credit they do deserve. Those men fought everyone and they pushed the sport along. They developed defenses and offenses that fighters do use to this day. They developed training systems that some fighters still use today. These guys like Locche were just defensive geniuses. Where do you think Mayweather learned his tactics, think he just made them up?
Hey, respect to your opinion but you don't need to tell me any of this, I was into hip hop for a long time and I know a hell of a lot lot more than you assume. I will challenge anyone's knowledge on this subject.

Hip hop consists of four elements: rap, graffiti, breaking, and DJing. Fair enough if you consider rap to be something different from Hp Hop, but those 4 elements all fall under the same umbrella, although my opinion is that it has been ****ed over and twisted into something it didn't start out as, and is currently in such a shameful state that it should be distanced from what true Hip Hop is all about. However, I still consider rap an important part of Hip Hop, no matter how bad it is.

If you are at all into scratch DJing I would be happy to share some of my audio files with you. Some years ago I was a fairly well-known scratch DJ, was highly regarded by the top dog's such as Q-Bert and D-Styles. I was recognized by many as being possibly the best in my country. I don't usually talk about it on a boxing forum, but there you go. I am happy to share my mixes and scratch tracks with someone who might appreciate them.

For what it's worth, I'm still involved with some great people who live, eat and breathe Hip Hop. These are guys are from the original school (80's) and are some of my best friends.

It's true that there's always going to be a tenedancy to glorify the accomplishments of fighters of old on sheer nostalgia. We always long for the "good ole days". However, there is going to be a tendency among younger fans to over-hype the accomplishments of their heroes while degrading the feats of those who were long past by the time they fell in love with the sport the way we older pundits did years ago...so, it all balances out. In short, boxing affects fans like us on an emotional level and there's nothing rational nor logical about emotions.

Are the older fighters over-hkyped? Yes and No....just like the younger more recent pugilists. On the bright side, this makes for good healthy debates. The secret to being as unbiased as possible is to keep an open mind....and this goes for both genres of fans, old and new. To older fans, the younger fans don't give their heroes...aka, the old school fighters....enought credit, so the older fans often overcompensate in their retorts....and likewise with the younger fans defending their favorite fighters.

        Ya gotta love this sport.

I agree. Hip hop is not like it used to be. I am from the new generation and i wish i was raised off old school hip hop. Watchin' documentaries like "scratch" "The Freshest Kids" "Style Wars" make me want to jump in a time machine and go back to the 80's and 90's.

Yup. I haven't heard anyone say "TOYS" for a few years. Props.

i geus boxing is a bit like hip hop then in some ways, i think there both victims of dilution in media and publicity, and the big money men pulling the strings, ppl in genral dont get to see the good boxers or the hear the good music they just do and believe what there told, except what there given and take that to be the best, this kills boxing because we aint seeing the best boxers on a regular basis so its almost impossible for the masses to appreciate them. Would Ali, SRR, SRL or any from the the golden days be what they are today or well known to the genral public as they are today if they were fighting nowor in the past ten years, maybe not,

All time greats deserve the credit they get. Who has Thomas Hearns ever ducked? or Muhammad Ali?

now compare them to fighters Mayweather, Calzaghe and even Roy Jones could've faced but didn't. Lots....

The only fighters comparables to old timers today, is mostly fighters from the lower divisions and some biggies....

                    Erik Morales
                    Marco Antonio Barrera
                    Manny Pacquio
                    Bernard Hopkins
                    Evander Holyfield
                    Ricardo Lopez
                    Mike Tyson
                    James Toney

                    the above fought everyone...

                      Too much credit my ass.

Those guys from the old days fought longer rounds, had smaller gloves....what were they 6oz gloves....it was dam near mma rules back then. Todays fighter are literally little girls in comparison to yesterdays crew of Titans.
