    Really makes sense.
I didn't contradict myself at all, "buddy". Asking for a good payday is being straight-up and honest. He did not have a fight scheduled with Jones. On the other hand, Bernard had already AGREED to a fight and doubled his money at the last minute, literally the day before the contract was due to be signed and the fight finalized. Big difference.

Yep. Of course if Hopkins really wanted to **** **** up he could've just pulled out AFTER signing the contract and then claimed injury. Then, just in case no one got it, pulled out a second time on the same contract.

        I kid, I kid .

Admittedly, Calzaghe stepped up to the championship level at 168 at a bad time, when the division was largely drained of the great talent it had had throughout the early-mid 90s. Having Ottke in the picture certainly didn't help as well, especially after he grabbed two of the belts. Perhaps stepping up to 175 earlier could have secured him some bigger names.

You're right fighters generally do have weaker resumes nowadays, but the way people talk about Calzaghe is like he was some dominating force who no one even wanted to fight. Let's just face the facts, Joe Calzaghe was a great fighter who did not fight the fights that would make him an ATG. And if he is an ATG, he's on the bottom of that list. This whole "Calzaghe is the GOAT" crap I hear makes me think his fans never watched any other fighter.
Dan, only a ****ing idiot says Calzaghe is the GOAT. Ignore them. There is a difference between regular Calzaghe fans and extreme fanboys. You're a smart enough guy, so surely you can differentiate. Myself, I have questions about Calzaghe that were never answered, for one reason or another. I have doubts and I always said he wasn't perfect. I am asking you to try and understand that there ARE objectional fans out here.

                LOL.

Seriously, as much as I don't think Calzaghe stacks up to his peers, you have to give him credit for trying to make the Hopkins fight.

For all the whining about Calzaghe's resume, this thread once again proves that there was not a slew of elite prime fighters who wanted a piece of Joe.

Its funny when they all say the man padded his record and then fail to name a fighter that:

                  1. Was elite level
                  2. Wanted a fight with Joe
                  3. Joe wanted to part of

I honestly think people who say **** like that are doing it to deliberately provoke a reaction from haters or just from other fans. A wind up. Whats even more ******ed is that people actually buy it.......
