Nigel Benn: "Calzaghe Beats Me, Hagler, Hearns, Sugar"

Just for an info:

Why would I have a reason to think he wouldn't do what he has always done in every fight, IE: win?

I don't believe Hearns would have beaten Calzaghe. And this is coming from a MASSIVE Tommy Hearns fan. Hearns didn't have the best chin. He also got tired and his stamina wasn't fantastic. Although it's easy to see fighters of the past in a glorious light, so I understand why anyone might think Hearns would beat him.

I always said it would take a good cruiser or heavyweight punch to put Calzaghe down and keep him down. Tommy had power, but not the kind of power needed to KO Calzaghe. He lost to welterweights, middleweights, and light heavies, was knocked out 4 times, had 5 losses in total, and 1 draw. Maybe if Calzaghe was a welter or light middle it might be a different story. As it stands, no, Hearns would not beat Calzaghe. He's not powerful enough and I don't think he'd outpoint him over 12 rounds.

...but to give credit to Hearns accomplishments, he beats a longtime undefeated WBA Light Heavyweight Champion Virgil Hill in his prime who had a 10 belt defenses until he lost to Hearns (at age 31) & in Hearns(at age 32) 1st defense lost to Iran Barkley by a Split Decision...& Hearns(at age 41) once an IBO Cruiserweight Champion by a win over Nate Miller & lost in his (at age 42) 1st defense to Uriah Grant...

id say the win over lacy as much as im gonna get so much **** for it lol because he was massive underdog all round the world lacy had never lost and was battering ppl all over the place joe outboxed out classed him and ppl say lacy is **** now but the majority of the world said he was gonna destroy joe and he was gonna do this and a lot of leading ppl in boxing said the same thing and you cant say that that many ppl know nothing about boxing ... its funny how ppl change there tune when a fighter gets beat lol bt thats my opinion not fact

I don't think Lacy was as technically competent as guys like McClellan or Julian Jackson.

Very true,in fact,the threads are still on this forum from the days and weeks leading up to that fight.Now what do you suppose carlton was calling himself back then? He accuses everyone he doesnt agree with an alt,but seeing as i couldnt find his silly ass on there from back then,it does make you wonder.I have a few ideas,because that level of self pontification and smugness is quite hard to hide

I think if Lacy went on to accomplish anything (God knows, he barely did anything before Calzaghe) then no one could rightfully say anything.

However, the fact that you think Lacy is Calzaghe's best win speaks volumes and I think reinforces what a lot of people are saying on here.

Of course not. I don't think anyone would suggest that.

The whole "He's undefeated so I can't imagine anyone beating him" is just a cop out BTW. An obvious one. There are a lot of undefeated fighters right now - I guess we can't imagine them ever losing.

Jeff Lacy ? please this is the same Jeff Lacy who went life and death with Syd Vanderpool, Omar Sheika, before the Joe Calzaghe fight.

I think it's actually very possible that Calzaghe could hustle his way to decision Hagler. Hagler did lose to a past his prime Leonard who fought only once in five years and never fought at middleweight. Calzaghe is bigger, fast enough and hits harder than Leonard at middleweight. Hagler had a lot of problems with an old Duran and Duran's best weight was 135-147. Hagler won a very close 15 round decision on Duran. It may have gone the other way if the fight was 12 rounds.

Hagler didnt have problems with Duran at all I think he simply showed him too much respect if they fought again Hagler would have put him away alot easier than the first fight.
Hagler was at his best when fighters came to him he and counter punched, look at both Duran and Leonard, they forced him to be the agressor and press the action. Calzaghe im guessing would be coming forward all the time thus making the fight way easier for Hagler because Calzaghe is no speed demon or anywhere near as elusive as Duran or Leonard

lol i no what you mean. i find a lot of ppl on here love to tell you that your opinion is wrong but how can it be its an opinion not a fact but then when u dispute what they say its like no he would have been killed inside 2 punches im happy to listen to opinions but like i say its comical when ppl change there tune when a fighter loses loads of ppl on the build up to the lacy fight said joe was a joke and big bad lacy was gonna show him how its done but soom as he got battered the very same ppl were like nah lacy way overrated **** never had a chance lol i mean ill hold my hands up i hoped jones wud beat joe but he didnt but i dont say jones was a hype job i can accept he was beaten on the night by a better fighter prime or not
