Lacy was a great win make no mistake about it but who did he beat before he faced Calzaghe that made him an elite fighter?

exactly, Lacy was never an elite fighter.

Then don't speak on him if you don't follow him. And definitely don't tell us he's close to his prime if you don't follow him.

The whole definition of what makes someone "elite" is so subjective it's not even worth discussing. Ricky Hatton has been in the top 10 P4P for years and anyone who tries to tell me he's more skilled than Kessler should ****in' die.

Lacy might not have been "elite", but everyone picked him to KO Calzaghe, and not because they thought Calzaghe ******, but because everyone was on Lacy's nuts so hard. So that win, especially when you consider what Joe did to him, definitely qualifies as a victory over a prime, elite fighter.

Also, the whole "prime" thing is ******. Some fighters are so good, that even outside of their prime they still do stuff that no one expects them to do. We recently saw this with Mosley beating Margarito. While Hopkins was not in his "prime", he was still ranked top 5 P4P, so why all the talk about "prime AND elite", it's really pointless. Some fighters don't have to be in their prime to be elite, and others may be viewed as elite by some people, but not by ALL people. The point I'm trying to make is that it's very easy to try to discredit someone's resume by picking it apart like this, and it can be done with every fighter.
            No it can't.

It's because Hatton has many very good wins on his resume while Kessler doesn't. Kessler had the skills and the talent but that hasn't brought him wins over top class competition (unless you consider Andrade and Mundine as such).

Hatton as unskilled as he may seem sometimes has wins over Tszyu, Castillo, Malignaggi, Urango, Collazo...

Lacy was hyped by Americans and thought to be a big deal in the future but no one in their right mind would've considered him a top p4p fighter with wins over Vanderpool, Pemberton and Sheika.

It was a win over a prime fighter, one that was favoured to beat him, but not elite by any means.

I can agree with this. The win over Hopkins was big for Calzaghe, especially because of the way Hopkins came back from that loss by dispatching Pavlik. He did not look impressive against Hopkins however, not that anyone really does.

Though I hate Calzaghe, I have to give him credit for when he fought Lacy and Kessler.

Kessler was a top 20 type p4p fighter when Calzaghe fought him. As for Lacy he turned out to be a more of a hype-job than an elite fighter, but that the time of the fight they had no way of knowing he was so limited.

I think this is part of the reason Joe irks me so much, is because you saw what he could do in fights like this against dangerous (or atleast percieved to be dangerous) fighters, yet he waisted most of his career fighting guys with inflated records, guys past their primes, and some that just had plain no business in a title fight.
