Joe Cortez is a terrible, incompetent referee. He's inconsistent in his officiating and usually favors one fighter over another.

That being said, when I watch him work fights from 5-10 years ago, he seemed okay then. So maybe it's just old age - he should retire.

I wonder if both fighters will agree on Lawrence Cole. Probably not since he showed favoritism to Marquez in the Jaca fight.

It's no secret that Marquez is my favorite fighter, but I don't like his reasoning for not wanting Cortez the more I look at it. If he just flat out said "I don't like the way he officiates" then it's fine but saying Cortez doesn't like Mexican fighters is childish. C'mon Juan. Besides, Cortez has a very valid point about his first fight with Pacquiao. He didn't have to let him continue. I like Marquez as a fighter and he is a proud champion but even I have to admit he does like to complain. Doesn't sway my stance on him though.

He has had a very long career and reffed over 100 title fights with only a few controversies to date. His age may be playing a factor, either way all refs make mistakes. IMO he should retire......

Cortez's performance in the Soto/Lorenzo was great compared to his performance in the Hatton/Floyd fight. If anything, Cortez has something against European fighters. Not Mexicans.

I'm glad you see it too.

Watching Floyd/Hatton and Hops/Calzaghe you see a painful inconsistancy.
