I think let him believe for himself...

I think Hatton has the right to believe for himself that beating Pacquiao will make him also #1 P4P, its a natural belief for a fighter of his caliber...but to become a #1 P4P has many factors to consider: accomplishments, great performances, great oppositions, dominance, versatility, etc., mostly base on experts standard of understanding...but even at this point of time i don't think he deserves to be one, he still needs a lot to prove & to beat one or two more great oppositions to overtake other great fighters like Hopkins, Juan Manuel Marquez, etc. His loss to Mayweather moves him a little farther but he is still near...but his excuses never seems favorable cause he's clearly beaten & embarrased...

...but he needs a win badly cause if he losses to Pacquiao his credibilty weakens and will make him an overrated boxer in the past months...and Pacquiao has a way ahead resume than his, but of course i can't discredit him he's a strong & agressive fighter w/ lots of holding...that's why odds is slim only 2 to 1 in Pacquiao's favor...

Dude even if Hatton does get past Pacquiao he still won't be p4p #1. God forbid he should land another fight with Mayweather after a Pacquiao win, but somehow miraculously beat Floyd, well then I would probably give it to him.

if hatton beats manny and then like you say fights and beats mayweather then yeah he could be on the pound for pound ladder but i thought to be a true #1 he would have to move from division to division and win convincingly like rjj has or mayweather has but then again i could be wrong lol but either way if he did beat them it would make him a legend of boxing but i cant see it happening but fair play to him hes willing to lose to try and a lot of so called worldclass fighters duck the true greats

It would really take more...and even much more to convince the boxing community as a whole. Remember when Pacquiao became P4P #1? not all was convinced (and I believe there are alot left who disbelieve).
Others believe that Pacquiao just benefited from Floyd Jr's retirement (Floyd Jr's surely one of 'em).

But Pacquiao's resumé is too impressive to ignore, beginning as a one-dimensional fighter he beat Lehlo Ledwaba and acquired the championship belt considering that he's just a late replacement for that fight, the same one-dimensional Pacquaio who moved up in weight to featherweight and defeat heavily favored legend Marco Antonio Barrera and silenced the crowd at Alamo Dome as he literally broke down and beat Barrera. We see him even lose to Morales the first time but in a great fashion that pleased the crowd..then we see him evolve as a fighter, develop his arsenal and defenses, eventually avenging his loss to Morales by KO. Move up in weight again and defeat all of his opponents in exciting fights, making sure fight fans will get their money's worth. How can he not belong to P4P rankings, how can he not be #1? Can we all just keep our favorite boxers to ourselves yet recognize the boxer deserving the P4P throne?

The Pound for Pound rankings will always be arguable from 2nd place below. And if you ever qualify for the #1 spot people will ask all the questions; Who did you fought? How did you win? What skills you possess? and so on...

And these P4P lists so abruptly change...every fight... every month.. every year.. not to mention the different P4P lists out there... The Ring...ESPN... even BoxingScene owns a version of it.

at least i like the attitude of the englishman hatton than the mexican boxers who talks foul against their opponents. hatton wants to be on the top by believing in his ability while respecting his opponent, that is one hell of a lesson for mexicans!!
