Again, I dont think Hatton has the overall skills to be considered P4P.
I think The Ring's current ranking of him as #10 is reasonable. If he were to beat Pac, then he would have to show more skills than we'd seen from him before in order to be able to achieve that. His P4P ranking would then certainly rise considerably, not to #1, but it would rise considerably.

I think that's a bit simplistic. Hatton is fighting at his peak weight, whereas Pac hasn't really been tested at the top level yet at anything over Jnr. Lightweight; so in pound for pound terms Hatton has that advantage of fighting at his best weight. OTH, when Pac and Marquez fought each other, neither had any weight advantage over the other.

Also, styles make fights, and if fighter a) can beat fighter b) that doesn't mean he would beat fighter c), and the P4P rankings have to take into account the fact that someone might win a given fight just because that person's style suited him.

You're wrong - try reading the article:
Hatton, in his mind, believes that a win over Pacquiao will give him the title of "best fighter in the world."

“I want to take that title off him – and I know I can. Once I become the best pound-for-pound fighter, how much higher can I go?"

Hatton will be at the very least #2 P4P when he beats Pac, #1 if Calzaghe retires.

If hatton KO's Pacman, then he may be #10 on the P4P list at the MOST! He is most likely going to lose to Pacman, but I wouldn't bet on it, because I just don't know how Pacman is going to respond to a game 140lb-er hitting him.

Hatton is probably going to take a great ass-whooping by Pacman, but even if he does beat Pacman, then he will still get KO'd by Floyd no matter where it is located or who is the ref....he just doesn't have the skills to beat Floyd, and he never will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck to both fighters though! I can't wait to see it!

The Ring already rates him at #9.

Please just shut the **** up Hatton, you have defeated no one who has a good resume. You got a gift against Collazo and defeating out of prime boxers means nothing. Paulie also got a gift decision on his second fight with Herman and Lovemore. Once you step up to fight elite you fail miserably, which is what is going to happen when Pacquiao kills you on the ring.

I still fail to see how someone like you gets so much damn attention.

I dont think you get it. In his mind, if he beats Manny, he will be as good or better than the man they previously called the P4P best. That doesn't mean he thinks he will be ranked #1 in the world by 'The Ring' magazine. There is a difference and I think Hatton is one of a kind and he is genuinely greatful to be in the position he is in. That cannot be said for almost all top athletes. If he wins, he has a good claim to being the P4P #1. Moreso than Joe C. and Marquez who are ranked 2 and 3. At least he will have beaten the P4P #1 at the time they held the distinction, unlike the others on the 'Ring' list.

More recently, Roy Jones Jr. was the P4P #1 fighter in the world when he beat Ruiz for the heavyweight title. Rightfully so too. Nobody has ever held the P4P distinction more deservingly than Roy Jones did. Period.

Roy Jones Jr. = The last heavyweight to be ranked #1 P4P.

Ricky Hatton is the man and he sounds hungry. People are going to be surprised by Hattons performance.
