Nice, astute observation. I'd also add Casamayor simply isn't as good as Hopkins period but you sum it up well.

Casamayor is severely underrated on these boards. At least the prime version.

Well its hardly suprising considering Jose Luis Castillo was a sparring partner for Julio Cesar Chavez. Also another thing i noticed regarding Jose Luis Castillo/Floyd Mayweather fight.

Is when Jose Luis Castillo bobs and weaves he doesn't throw punches, and that would throw Floyd Mayweather's rhythm off. Because he was always expecting Jose Luis Castillo to throw punches while he was bobbing a weaving, and that effected Floyd Mayweather's timing.

And plus Jose Luis Castillo would duck down and come up with his punches, another tactic which threw Floyd Mayweather off his game. Jose Luis Castillo also isn't as easy to hit as you would think, and he is pretty accurate with his punches aswell.
Damn, you nailed that one, which was a pretty common thing if you watch old fights with similar aggressive 'short reach' styles. Nowadays you don't see many fighters like JLC at all. It's sad... the diminishing level of skills across boxers is sad. We have a great deal of excellent athletes in the game today, but only a few know how to use those tools effectively.

To me he has a JMM type chin. He cannot stay on his feet in his biggest fights, but rarely has he been knocked out.

Im not sure how to judge Casa TBH, because the first Corrales fight was a controversial stoppage and the 3rd win he had over Corrales was not as impressive to me, because i believe Corrales was badly weight drained and he fought that way too. Corrales pretty much won the 2nd fight fair and square. I think Casa probably would of beaten Freitas if it not for a bull**** KD call by the referee. I also dont believe Castillo beat him, although its debatable either way, because it was a scrappy fight with not much action. Also i thought he performed very well against JMM untill getting stopped.

I dont believe Casa had a GLASS chin, but he has been hurt quite a few times in his fights.

When I scored it and watched it the first time I had Casamayor winning by 1 point. Haven't watched it in quite a long time though.

It was certainly close and Joel really fought on even terms with Castillo for the majority of the fight, if not getting the better of him.

What is controversial about getting stopped after having your mouthpiece punched through your lip? The only reason anybody had any gripes about it was because Corrales buzzed Joel in the round leading up to the stoppage...those people are way off base though.
