Well then if this fight were to happen at 135. I'll stick to what I said before. It can go either way

By the way, don't you think Whitaker looked GREAT against JCV at 154? because I DID

Of course. But he also said himself he didn't feel very comfortable at that weight and could not/would not stay there.

Regardless, Whitaker's prime was at 135.

Im not just talking about the Leonard rematch either, Im talking about the runners he faced at 135.
Duran would likely beat Mayweather, but it wouldnt be one of his amazing performances. more than anything it would probebly be him slowly closing the distance and outfighting Mayweather down the stretch.

Whitaker on the other hand has all the tools to give Mayweather problems. fantastic quick jab, incredible reflexes, southpaw stance, effective body punching and the ability to fight in clinches.
you wouldnt see much fancy head movement in this fight...Whitaker only did that mostly when his opponents started throwing combinations to the body and head, and I dont see Mayweather doing more than 2 or 3 punch combos against a Pernell Whitaker style.
I can tell you one thing though...If Mayweather tried walking down Pernell with his hands up like he started doing to Zab around the 6th round, he would do terrible. he really wouldnt have a chance. Pernell ate that style up.
I was just writing in another thread how I'd pick Duran to beat PBF, but I would not put money on PBF-Pea.

I think I want to watch again some of Duran 135 fights, obviously I see what you are saying in the 2nd Leonard fight, but I am wondering about absolute peak Duran (De Jesus III).

        • Floyd will always have problems with Southpaw fighters, because to beat Southpaws you HAVE to put pressure on them, its a must. Floyd's fighting style is not geared around putting pressure on his opponents although he has done it occasionally (Judah,Mitchell,Corley)

He was losing to Judah and ONLY when Judah started to fade (as is his custom )was Floyd able to crank up the pressure and that is what beat Judah in the end the pressure negated his Southpaw stance.

Sharmba Mitchell fight is one of the most aggressive performances ive seen from Floyd in recent years and its, because he had to put pressure on Mitchell, because that is what you have to do to beat Leftys.

Look how close Floyd got to Corley he was almost on his toes he was that close. Again realizing he had to keep the pressure on the Southpaw fighter.

Now you may say you have just defeated your own argument there, but i say no, because Judah's lack of composure is why i believe Floyd was able to come back and win the fight. Also Corley has never been what i consider a top top fighter and he managed to buzz Floyd an hit him with more shot than ive ever seen him take.

Whitaker is one of THE most slippery leftys ever in Boxing history and Mayweather has shown he can be open to counters from leftys. So you see Floyd would have no choice be to be aggressive to stand a chance of beating Pea at lightweight. Whitaker's style makes Floyd fight a fight he does not wanna fight, trust me.

Another thing I noticed about JLC was that, he didn't go in and then throw...he'd go in throwing...that and he can get a lil dirty. All in all he was a great fighter. Too bad, I think the Corrales fight took alot out of him. Talk about the Casa fight, you know where I can download it?

            • shawn and dynamite, I am done arguing with you.

I am interested in debating with people who actually look at what happens in the ring as opposed to what they want to happen.

In other words, I am waiting to hear from Benny and Blackirish, and I am out of here in the meantime.

              peace out.

True but even though he wasn't at his best at 154 ofcourse...I'd pick him to beat alot of people there. Anyway, this is almost like Mayweather. Mayweather hasn't looked nearly as good as he did at 130 in the other weights.

Except the bold parts, which are just your opinion and doesnt look like the fights you mentioned, this is finally a decent explanation of your opinion. Why did it take you 20 pages to come up with it?

                  • You could argue that Casa did not lose too Castillo. I mean what was Castillo doing for 5/6 rounds except getting hit and then tied up?
