  • It'd go either way. Whitaker has the stamina, jab to go the 12 rounds. He is also the better body puncher and his defense/ accuracy is great. Mayweather is the stronger, faster more accurate puncher...On the inside Whitaker would win on the outside Mayweather would win. I've seen McGirt/ Hurtado give Whitaker PROBLEMS on the outside and they aren't as good as Floyd.

So my take is...Whitaker is smarter on the inside, he knows all the tricks and is the better body puncher.

Mayweather is the better fighter on the outside. He has the speed and footwork to win on the outside.

Just remember...I'm a HUGE fan of both fighters and I've seen almost all their fights

Whitaker's prime was at 135, certainly not 147 where he began showing signs of slipping. He wasn't at his peak against McGirt and he was nearing the end of the rope against Hurtado.

Prime for prime, I'd pit them against each other between 130-140.

If someone asks me something I don't know or about a fighter I haven't seen enoguh of I just say I don't have a clue. This happens to be a debate I think I can speak on fairly well as they are two of my favourite guys and I have watched them a great deal.

I apologise in advance if I am incorrect, but I think you commented that Floyd's inside game was superior to Pernell's which is just crap. If you did say that and I answered with "have you ever seen Pea fight" then I stand by that.
If you seen Whitaker fight then you'd know he couldn't always outbox his opponents...he'd have to sometimes get on the inside. Example, DLH, Tito, Hurtado, McGirt and JCV (Although not so much) He was able to outbox JCC, JLR and so on...If he was getting outboxed by Hurtado, McGirt....doesn't that tell you someone like Floyd could outbox him, this while I agree Whitaker would win on the inside. He was the better inside fighter

To be serious, you'd have to pick your answer based on

Could Whitaker get on the inside?
Would Floyd get enough room to outbox?

I'm surprised you say you seen nearly all of Pea's fights yet compare him to Floyd using fights where he was well past his prime. Trinidad? De La Hoya? Hell, even against Vasquez Whitaker was past it. That's like me comparing Roy to Floyd and neglecting anything that occured prior to 2003. Prime for prime should be the debate.

Ok so if it isn't at 147. We'll make it at 135 where Floyd was more offensive, faster hand speed, quicker on his feet and I'd still say this could go either way.

Yep. The same division where Whitaker was also more offensive, faster handspeed and quicker on his feet. Oh, and beat ATG's and far better opposition.

He was getting outboxed by Hurtado? Who cares?

We are talking a prime on prime matchup here. As good as Pea was at 147 he was never prime there. Prime Pea was a LW.

Yeah, I'm totally lost. That's like saying, "Hell no Ali couldn't beat Mike Tyson. Just look at the way Trevor Berbick was outboxing him!"
