Yea but they don't master them, they have minimal stand up skills, average BJJ skills.

You have the rare fighter who has an excellent ground game, or a decent kickboxer, but i've never see one one that has both. Anderson Silva got his ass beat by a nobody in boxing so that's saying a lot right there.

      You're buggin homie...

You have to understand a Boxer's mentality going into a fight and a MMA guy going into a fight are night and day. They're similar in the sense that they have to learn to adjust to who they're fighting, but with MMA you have to worry about more than someone just throwing punches at you. The misconception of MMA is the ground game and how the non-supporters of MMA calling it a hug fest when in actuality they're positioning to put that dude in a choke hold or leg lock, etc.

I mean if it ain't you're cup of tea then that's coo too, but you cannot say those guys don't know how to throw hands when the majority of them have sparred and trained with top Boxing trainers and fighters alike (especially in Vegas).

      • ugly, boring to watch

but more importantly, it's fans seem to have some inferiority complex about boxing and are constantly slagging it off or trying to compare it to boxing

        • I just have to turn the volume down when I watch the UFC. Rogan and Goldberg say some ****** ****. Things like "this guy has world-class boxing" or "you know Roy Jones respects Forest Griffin's hands."

I think it's more the other way around. I've been to several MMA forums and all they talk about really is MMA (similar to how peeps talk about boxing here).

I have a lot of friends who love both MMA & Boxing too. It's really not that serious IMO. If you like it, coo. If not, turn the channel.

I just find mad people here being envious of MMA for its sudden rise in popularity with Boxing sort of being overshadowed in the mainstream sense...but who cares? LOL...none of us see those checks anyway so what difference does it make?

Continue watching Boxing, it ain't going anywhere.

No it does not, i just respect boxing a lot more as a sport than MMA because in MMA, its basically street fighting (which is entertaining) but i dont consider that a sport. They like to say they are this type of martial artist or that that type, but quite frankly, you rarely see that, you mostly see a street fight, at least imo

                2. Why are so many of you so insecure about you sexuality that you have to compare grappling with ****sexual sex?

Very secure about my sexuality, just dont like dudes wrestling around in undies, same reason why i dont watch pro wrestling....

                3. Im sure a lot of you like other sports like football, baseball. and basketball so why doesn't the same hate you have for MMA transfer over to these sports.

Because they arent competing for the same audience and they dont have a ****head(Dana White) always talking **** about boxing

                4. How can you deny yourself endless forms of combat and tons of entertaining matchups in both sports? In january alone I get to watch 5 major title fights since I'm a big fan of both sports while all of you MMA haters get a whole two title fights.

Say bro, i watch MMA, just not all of the shows, i only watch it when a big name appears on the card, Spider Silva, Rampage, Lidell, Nogueira, Emilianenko(sp?), Sugar Evans, Faber, Sanchez etc

                5. Why do you hate fun and multiple forms of entertainment?

I watch a ton of sports that are entertaining, its just that my 2 favorite are Boxing and football, basketball coming 3rd, MMA has to have a GREAT card on PPV or be on free tv for me to catch it

All I ask is that if you answer my questions you will at least put the same effort into them that you put into the boxing threads on this message board.
I feel you bro and glad you wrote and asked decent questions....hope i answered you

                • I don't hate MMA. I like MMA. I usually like any given boxing match way better than your average UFC or EliteXC or Wreckcage or whatever, but MMA is cool too. My favorite MMA fighter is Kung Le and I love to watch him throw some practicle, real-life kung-fu on a motherphucker. What I don't dig are the dumbasses that come into boxing forums talkin' about "boxing is dying" and "Dana White said blahbedyblah" and "MMA sold more PPV" and all this other bull****. For all of it's foibles, boxing is my favorite sport by a country mile and I don't want to see it maligned by smarmy fanboys/girls/other of (what for me) is still a "flavor-of-the-month".

                  • I don't watch MMA, mainly because I don't know a lot of the players. I know the big names and see the highlights but that's about it. I've taken martial arts and have much love for the sport of boxing (I'm Mexican it's in my blood ). but I just can't draw myself to MMA. I saw one post on here that tied MMA to the boring aspect of Boxing (holding and clinching) which I totally understand because I could careless how well someone's guard on their back is, and watching someone line up a 215lbs elbow to pummel into someone's skull repeatedly just isn't as fun as watching as watching per say, Calzaghe rip Jeff Lacey to shreds, or Pacman and JMM bobing weaving, and out dueling each-other planning that thunderous body blow or uppercut that's gonna have the crowd going (wow, that kid just got his block knocked). I do want to say though, in regards to conditioning, I'm pretty sure I have seen multiple studies and articles that have said both MMA and Boxers are amongst the most durable and well trained athletes in the world, so to say that an MMA fighter is not on the same level as a boxer is a great disrespect to MMA. If you have any doubt, try grappling a 200+lbs guy that has been training like a wild bear for 6mos. Hell, try grappling a college kid I bet you will realize pretty quickly that these guys who some like to call ****s' because they put on tights and grab\and hug are pretty damn good athletes and know their craft. but to remain on topic, I think most people view this the same as American see football, and the rest of the world see's Soccer. Both require amazing strength and conditioning, but for some reason those purest of each sport will not recognize the dedication and hard work that the each player puts in. kind of like MMA, most people that I know think Soccer is a "girlie sport" and requires no skill or conditioning.

No it doesn't. It looks like two men fighting, which boxing also resembles.

                      tries to be like boxing,
How so ? If that were the case then why is it completely legal to kick someone, or take them down ? Awful point here, MMA is the whole spectrum, and basically allows anything outside of eye gouging, biting, hair pulling, and hitting in the groin.
but not really as complete as boxing.
Complete in what sense ? MMA in itself is not a style of fighting. Boxing is.

Like I said, MMA is the test to see who's approach in a fight is most effective. This could be a mix of several different styles. Your statement makes the assumption that MMA is itself one style, which is completely baseless.
mma though is currently undergoing therapy so it may become as good at it's older cousin boxing in terms of competitiveness as a sport and a more defined skill level
LOL, what 'therapy' is this you speak of ?

As far as competitiveness as a sport, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that either. Its obvious you know little about the sport, not that it matters anyways.

                      Goes both ways though.

As a fan of both, there are ignorant fans of each sport, and its kind of disappointing to see that people feel as if these two sports are competing for one spot.

In reality, both sports can and will coexist, and the success of one will only push the other to improve. So for those, like myself, who love both sports.

                      Its a win-win.

For the most part though, in real life, people aren't this bullheaded and ignorant.

The gym I train at has both professional boxers as well as professional MMA fighters, and some that are both. Everyone knows that each sport respectively is physically demanding, just in different ways.
