look at him deeply as a fighter....
stop lookin simply at AGE and what he has done in regards to that....
instead look at what he kouldn't do and what he was unable to do....long term

20 middleweight title defenses against quite a few fighters ranked in the top 10 at the time, he deserves his props.
And as a fighter, his skills are great as well, one of the most well schooled fighters of this generation and he would probably be competitive in any era with his skillset.Comment

What was it that he couldn't do? Losing a very close SD that could have gone either way to the number 2 pound for pound fighter in the world at age 43, beating a pound for pound top 10 fighter at the same age, beating the top light heavyweight in the world at 41, these accomplishments are great, no other fighter in the history of the sport has had as much success over the age of 40.

but not LEGENDComment

If Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson are legends in your view then so is Hopkins.
I don't have a problem with someone not calling Hopkins a legend because that's term you shouldn't use lightly but Hopkins ranks with Tyson and Lewis no matter how you look at it.Last edited by TheGreatA; 01-15-2009, 02:06 AM.Comment

He is still going strong at 43+ years of age which is almost unheard of in this sport (aside from Archie Moore and maybe George Foreman).
Tyson's talent didn't bring him many great victories.
Lewis got by with his combination of size and skill. He wasn't exactly spectacular, just a very solid boxer who beat the best heavyweights of his time.Comment

well clearly you have only been watching hopkins for about 1 year now. his "current style" might be boring but he is 43 years old. He was an entertaining fighter to watch once upon a time. watch him when he was in his prime. don't judge him by how he is now.Comment
