didnt think about that.. waiting for someone from phillipines to clarify this.

still.. i think more ppl would agree with me in that

amateurs & pro aint the same...
We ALL agree that amateurs and pros are not the same.

But, if anything, shouldn't Pacquiao have an ADVANTAGE in fighting pro rules before FMJ did? Kinda how a basketball player will get better competition and experience in the pros than he would in college.

Right? What is BETTER experience: fighting at 106 at age 16 in the pros, or fighting at 106 at age 16 in the amateurs?

Fighting againt the top US amateurs is a higher level of boxing than manila bums, when you take that into account, the answer is not very clear.

yeahh i know what you mean...

basiclly you are saying that us golden glove fighters are more way conditiong and healthy than the "regular 105 phillipines boxers that manny pac faced"

and because of that we must consider that us golden gloves have higher standards or can be seen more tuff than those fighters pac faced.

and if that is the case.. i think you are right.

yeah but i am also saying that pac had it very tough, and it is very remarkable that with that start he is where he is now!

These polls are ******. Both Mayweather and Pacquiao have secured their place amongst the greats of all time. A fight between the two would probably decide fighter of the decade honors, with the loser probably being #2 in the decade. To call either a coward or belittle his accomplishments is ignorant. Unfortunately, too many so called real boxing fans do just that.

                  True.

The other consideration is that the amateur/olympic style doesn't work in the pros. You gotta hit with the white part of the glove, the ref separates you even when the guy isn't hurt, etc.

It takes some amateurs a long time to adapt to the pro style, which rewards power (rather than volume) punching and knockouts.

Joe is being discussed as possible #1 p4p, ATG and lock first-ballot HoF'er.

In my opinion, his best wins are Jeff Lacy and Mikkel Kessler. Two guys who won't be remembered.

Yes, he has BHop and RJJ on his resume. Their average age was 41 when CalSlappy beat them.

The amateur rules were a little different in 1993 when Mayweather was 16 and fighting at 106 in the amateurs. Hell, they were different when he was 19 and winning the bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics in the 112 division.

Plus, Mayweather had no trouble adjusting to the pro style. He won the linear 130 lb title in dominant fashion less than two year later.
