I think they both deserve a lot of credit....weither or not they fight the best they still have a great record....now marciano had no prime ppl to fight...not his fault...mayweather had prime ppl to fight and did and beat them...its timing haha, but both were tremendous athletes

Marciano had great power, but he has beaten no one worthy except for an old Joe Louis. Mayweather has better names, earned more titles, and is so much more skilled. So it's Mayweather.

Just like Joe Calzaghe... I think allot of people don't address this they way they should for some reason but JC is the new RM. Anyway most people who are undefeated today wouldn't probably be undefeated if they fought everyone around their weight classes. This applies specially to people who have never moved up in weight or did so in a very safe way, those you can guess they would definitely NOT stay undefeated had they taken the harder fight. I find it hilarious people saying Mayweather should be fighting welterweights after having moved up all the way from 130 to 154 and back to 147, but saying Joe Calzaghe, who took 10 years to move up 7 pounds LOL is perfectly proved and surely an ATG.

Mayweather's the better skilled fighter and beat better opponents

but I think Marciano will be remembered longer and have a better legacy only because he was an undefeated heavyweight

Marciano was a victim of his time. The level of competition for the HW crown was just pretty weak when he was the champ. Therefore, he never got the wins against the level of opposition he needed to cement a great legacy. I'm not saying he couldn't beat that level of fighter, just that he didn't. He was reduced to fighting the shell of Joe Louis to gain some recognition.

It is a bit ridiculous to say that Mayweather beat "Gattis, Judah and at best DLHs" also. It either shows a significant bias against the man or a total lack of knowledge. Mayweather had great wins at 130 and 135 against prime, elite guys like Chavez, Corrales and Castillo as well as a very good win over a great 130 pound champion in Genaro Hernandez. Not only did he win all of those fights but he was hugely impressive in most of them. His achievement at 140 and above are just icing on a cake that is an incredible career at 130 and 135 pounds.

The win over Genaro Hernandez means little, I say that because I seen that thrown around on here like it was great. Frist off Genaro was so past his prime, it was his last fight. Not even to mention De La Hoya had already destroyed a few years before that.

Marciano fought and beat the very best of his era. Mayweather cant even say he beat the best, in most of the divisons he fought in. Other than a solid run at 130 and 135, which wasnt ATG. Wins over Chavez, Corrales and Castillo( 1-1) are very good but not ATG.

Most boxing historians have Marciano at least top 15 all time. Mayweather wont be even top 50.
