Personally I don't think I mentioned motivation, but yes I did Joe saying he under estimated Hopkins. Why is that so hard to take. Not saying he took it easy, but that he came out of that fight thinking that was closer than I anticipated it to be, this 43 year old is better than I expected. Most come away fighting Hopkins and thinking that. But Calzaghe can't.

Most people, fans press and Pavlik himself underestimated Hopkins in that fight and should come away the wiser knowing he really is a force, which he keeps on prooving to peoples surprise. I think too much is being made of Joes performance and what he said. There's boxers saying far worse, in fact Pavlik post fight saying he just couldn't get off when he was clearly just outclassed. That was the worst bull **** I'd ever heard and I like the guy. Don't hear so much grief about that, and that's far worse, and but one example.

Thats fine, I see what you are saying, I just don't buy it. It was a tough fight and he struggled to be effective, sure, but that is a common feature in Hopkins fight. Just because he struggled doesn't necessarily mean he underestimated him. The man is just that hard to fight and look good against.

That was awful (4:15), but that was possibly the worst thing in the whole fight you could have picked out as being "the story of the fight". Does nobody else see the headbutt at the end of the round too? There's a gif of this part floating around, and contrary to what the commentary is saying, Bernard hits JC with a headbutt, it's pretty clear to see. I don't think the fact that he nearly went down (or stumbled, at least) was the effect of a clean right hand so much as it was a combination of the headbutt and being a little off balance, so these things tend to get blown a little out of proportion.
