As for this thread, well Joe has done well but he's no Floyd Mayweather.

When Joe was top dog at 168, there was bugger all quality in it IMO and the big boys didn't want to know.

Joe's wins against Lacy and Kessler are widely regraded as his best wins which pretty much sums it up.

Lacy's mostly cited because he was well favoured against Joe as genuinely one of the best SMW's the US had produced, and would beat him. Also because he had a belt, and Calzaghe completely dominated him, in one of the most one side bouts of the decade.

Kessler because he was clearly the best SMW and mostly regarded as such now. Calzaghe unified fairly easily against him, and performed very well. OK Kessler's not faced enough top competition yet or real elites, but he probably will, and is well regarded to be competitive against the likes of Dawson, Hopkins and Taylor.

In terms of decent wins Chris Eubank, Robin Reid, Byron Mitchell, Omar Sheika, Richie Woodhall, Mario Veit, Charles Brewer, Ashira and Bika are all decent-good wins. A lot were top 10 ranked SMW's aswell. Let's not forget Hopkins at a totally new weight, especially given Hopkins wins either side of that bout.

I do also find it odd how all of a sudden people are talking of the SMW as if it's a lot more stacked. Talking of Froch, Kessler, Taylor, Pascal, Bute, Andrade, Green, Inkin a lot and mostly speaking well of them. When the reality is most agree Calzaghe would beat all of them, most of them easily, and arguable already beat the best one. That says a lot.

Louis was shot. Louis was so shot that even Marciano didn't want to fight him and felt guilty afterwards. Surprised he didn't shoot himself.

Louis had already retired but had to come back to pay back Pimp Uncle Sam. Mentally and physically he wasn't there. Louis was even bolding.

And the fact that Past Prime Louis beat Walcott, one by KO, before Marciano shows that Walcott was what Bert Sugar had said what he was known as for a long time: A Journeyman.

I don't give credit to fighters that beat shot fighters.

            Look at this Joe Louis

And now look at this one

How can you get credit for beating up your Grandfather?

              Well, yes. Pretty much.

Reid: "I have no problem with the decision, I was never gonna outbox Joe Calzaghe."

A couple of BoxingScene members: "No, you arguably won! Come on, Rob, don't say that! We won't be able to discredit Calzaghe so easily and we are absolutely ****ing desperate to do that!"

It's because I respect Calz that I can't understand why he won't take on worthy challenges.

Just because I think he can beat calz doesn't give him a pass to duck dawson.

Only a year or so later, Reid controversially lost to the current WBO Super Middleweight Joe Calzaghe. A fight to this very day Reid disputes by saying "I thought I beat him in the 1st fight, and I would beat him in the 2nd!!!".
