Bert Sugar seems to think Charles was never the same after he killed a Man in the ring. I don't always agree with Sugar, but on this one, I can agree that if Charles wasn't right Mentally, he can't be at his best, especially since Sugar also mentioned Charles was basically a killer {possibly wrong choice of words} at LH and was a feared man in his prime.

We also have to look at how many times Charles fought; how many fights were tough wars; how many times had he been knocked out?
To me, this all matters to help judge where he was possibly at in his career from the wear and tear, both Mentally and Physically.

    Not Marciano's fault though.

2.Mayweather ducked everyone left and right.Margarito,Cotto,Mosley.
His biggest win is probably Corrales, not shot Hatton who took ass woopin from Collazo few fights before.
3.Sve Ottke and Sauerland robbed 3 or 4 fights.
4.Ricardo Lopez took 2 robberys against some nicaraguan fighter.

and i would put with him Marciano at the same place.
      Anyone with me?
No. He's not. And by the way, "he really fight everyone" ? Jesus Christ.

And if we want to use the Pac-huggers logic, Charles was a blown-up MW
Louis was favored to win against Marciano when the fought, plus he had a 3 inch height advantage, 9 inch reach advantage and he outweighed Marciano by about 29 pounds so you gotta give him credit for that. Oh yeah and he did punch him through the ropes.

              What is an "undiffited" fighter?

And no, I wouldn't say so. Floyd Mayweather Jr. achieved much more than Calzaghe, moving from 130-154 to pick up belts in all divisions.

Rocky Marciano went 49-0 as a heavyweight, beating guys like Archie Moore, Jersey Joe Walcott and Ezzard Charles along the way. He had knockouts against all of them.

Ricardo Lopez was great but his problem was a lack of competitive, defining fights to stamp his claim as an ATG.

There aren't many fighters that retire undefeated. If Calzaghe does indeed decide to hang 'em up, then he ranks right up there with Marciano.

Seen as Reid said he lost, that puts an end to it?

Reid deserved a rematch at the very least.

The reason people favored Louis was because, he was Joe Louis. A lot of people wanted to believe that their hero was still the fighter they all remembered him to be.

Louis won some of the earlier rounds on the strength of his jab but Marciano was the stronger man throughout.

I think another contributing factor was that few believed Marciano was anything special at the time. Indeed he was still developing at that point and was thought to be too green by some people.

We know in hindsight that we saw the emergence of a future heavyweight champion, which few at that time thought was possible.
